Division

Question

I am trying to do a division to halve a odd number say 13 /2 but it won't give me 6.5 it gives me 6 or 7&nbsp;i am using this formula =IMDIV(B12,2) AM I DOING IT THE RIGHT WAY please helpIan

dawesy&nbsp;1. Why on earth would you use IMDIV()?2. B12/2 is sufficient.3. You are probably using a special number format. Change it to "General".&nbsp;

Detlef_Lewin&nbsp;&nbsp;Hi there have tried the changes but as you can see on the table i sent the odd number on the front nine&nbsp;still does not divide by i left the back nine as it was, which ever i used same problem niether will halve&nbsp;a odd number

dawesy&nbsp;Hi Ian, so you are still using the schedule we worked on earlier? Introducing the "half HCP" columns is OK but it copied the custom number format from the columns at the left. That format eliminates all decimals. In M10, just use =B10/2 and set the format of column M to General (as suggested by Detlef_Lewin&nbsp;) and all works fine. Similar for column Z.&nbsp;See attached.&nbsp;And by the way, this is what MS support says about IMDIV:&nbsp;"Returns the quotient of two complex numbers in x + yi or x + yj text format."&nbsp;Not something you would want to use for division of "regular" numbers where you also would want to return a numeric value.
