Dialog box vanishes in Power Query Editor when trying to split columns
Hi
I've got Excel 365 and trying to improve my power query skills for work and also for personal use as well hopefully.
Anyway, not sure this is a bug or how to get around it if anyone can help.
Sometimes when I try to do a Split Column > By number of characters, the dialog box attempts to load but gets stuck as in the screen-shot. You will be able to see a faint square box where the dialog should have loaded from my screen-shot.
Alt Tab doesn't help either.
Its happened twice now. For sure this will mean that I've lost what I've done but I'm only following a book to improve so not a biggie.
Can anyone advise please:
MS Excel is now jammed. If I try to end the process, then this message appears and when I click OK then the old egg-timer loads up and its jammed again.
Kind Regards
Matt

- jmatty2023Copper ContributorI've found the problem (bug) now....
If I right-click on the column header > Split Column > by number of characters ..... then the problem happens.
However, if I go via the ribbon > Home > Split Column > by number of characters .... then it works absolutely fine which is the workaround.- SergeiBaklanDiamond Contributor
Not exactly. For this concrete case that could be the workaround. But this box could appear on any other operation, e.g. correcting of table merge. This is not specific to split columns.
- jmatty2023Copper ContributorDo Microsoft have this kind of issue logged as a defect? I searched on the internet and its been an issue since at least MS Excel 2010 ?!?!?

That happens from time to time, not necessary on Split Columns. Focus on this transparent box and press Esc or Alt+F4. It shall disappear.
