Cursor placement question

Apologies if this has been answered.  It's a bit of a weird question.

Is there a way to move the CURSOR between cells so that the cursor ITSELF is active and can be arrowed back and forth once it reaches its new cell?

I am not asking how to move between cells.  I am trying to work on a spreadsheet that already has data in it.  Data I don't want to overwrite, but want to move to specific text within each cell, without having to click five thousand times (okay, exaggeration based on annoyance :D ) to get to the spot in the cell I want to edit.

See below for an example of cells I'm working on.

I just need to go from cell to cell and change one or two characters in each cell.  Most of the data within each cell stays the same, usually only a few characters change, so it would be nice if there were a way to do this more quickly without having to clickety click click, or re-writing the entire cell contents.

It would be VERY helpful if there were a way to place the cursor at the exact spot I need with one click or by arrowing down the cells (that would be heaven).  Again, WITHOUT the several clicks and repositioning it normally takes.

Thanks in advance!

  • As I understood that's about to keep cell edit mode without double-clicking or pressing F2 on each cell when the focus is changed from one cell to another .

If so - nope, there is no such option in Excel, if only some third-party add-ins. If no formulas within cells range to edit, the workaround could be copy entire region and paste everything to Notepad (not Word). Edit everything in Notepad (without removing tabs which are within the text), copy and paste back to Excel. If formatting is not important on same place, otherwise on empty place and copy/paste it as values on old place.

Perhaps something more advanced than Notepad works as well, i didn't try.

    Hi

I'm not sure what it is you wish but with F2 you can access edit mode and move the cursor within the cell content.
