countif bad count

Detlef_Lewin Thank you for the reply. Is there a place to enter the specific person I'm looking to count? Im not sure what is being counted with this formula. I'd like to know how many rows (in columns A & C) "Joe " is being counted. Thanks for the help.

If you are counting "Joe" then you are not counting unique values.
So, what's it gonna be?

Thanks for the formula, it works but it counts "Joe" in both columns. The employee should be counted once per row (i.e. A2=Joe, C2=Joe; count should be 1). Thanks for your continued efforts.
