In AT2:
=SUM(LEN(X2:AQ2)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(X2:AQ2, "U", "")))+SUM(LEN(X2:AQ2)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(X2:AQ2, "S", "")))/2
