"Convert to number" stays at the top of the column

OK. So I have a column of exported data that is a list of numbers stored as text as indicated by the triangle in the top left corner of the cell.
So I select the first cell (row 2) and CTRL+down arrow.
That allows me to select all the cells I want to convert.

Before, the yellow triangle with the exclamation point would be beside the bottom cell and I could easily convert.

Now, the triangle seems pinned to the first cell I select.

This isn't a big deal for a single page spreadsheet, but when I have to select thousands of lines, then scroll all the way back to the top, one errant click starts me back from the beginning.

Is there a setting I can change to fix this or am I missing something obvious?

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

  • When you have selected the cells:

    • Set the Number Format to General or Number.
    • On the Data tab of the ribbon, click Text to Columns, then click Finish without changing any setting.
