Change Default Browser in Which Hyperlinks Open
Moments ago for whatever reason, my Excel Home and Student 2021 began opening hyperlinks in Edge. I did not change this setting. How do I change the browser back to Google Chrome without editing the registry? If it makes any difference, I am using Windows 11.
Take this:
- Open Settings: Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
- Navigate to Default Apps: Go to Apps > Default apps.
- Set Default Browser: Scroll down to the Web browser section. Click on the current default browser (Edge) and select Google Chrome from the dropdown menu.
- Set Default for HTTP and HTTPS: Click on Choose default by link type. Scroll down to find HTTP and HTTPS, and set both to open with Google Chrome.

I had already tried setting Chrome as my default browser even though it was the default already. This does not change, let alone fix anything :/

If Excel Home and Student 2021 is opening hyperlinks in Microsoft Edge instead of Google Chrome, you can fix this without editing the registry. First, go to Settings (Win + I), then navigate to Apps > Default apps. Scroll down, select Google Chrome, and ensure that both HTTP and HTTPS links are set to open with Chrome instead of Edge. Additionally, open Control Panel by pressing Win + R, typing control, and hitting Enter. Then, go to Default Programs > Set your default programs, select Google Chrome, and click Set this program as default. If the issue persists, try repairing Microsoft Office by going to Settings > Apps > Installed apps, finding Microsoft Office Home and Student 2021, clicking Modify, and selecting Quick Repair. These steps should restore Chrome as the default browser for opening hyperlinks in Excel. Let me know if you need further assistance!

It was already the default. Had tried setting it as default again despite that. Tried repairing it. None of this worked. Any other ideas?

You have to consider using a URL redirection extension in Chrome, such as Redirector, which can override Windows' behavior for opening certain links.
