I was told the behavior is how it is supposed to work, i.e. protect a sheet and contents are locked. I'd look for a shoulder shrug emoji right now if I were texting lol. I really, really wish it wasn't this way, but such is life.
Unfortunately no, what you're asking cannot be done. It has been brought up many, many times, and we've been told it is working as intended and not a bug (although I still disagree). There is no good solution here, only compromises.
