Basic formula creation issue

Creating a simple formula =(B2+B3), when I start the formula and move to the target cell B2, it remains highlighted in the formula =(B2. When I then go to enter the operation (+-*/) it overwrites the target cell =(+.

I had this problem a long time ago on another system and cannot remember what the process/setting is to change it?
