Price increase D365, impact on Base/Attach model?
- Oct 09, 2024
Update on the licensing guide shows that there's no impact on the Base/Attach model. There's now an exception made on the model, were D365 BC Premium is still eligible as a Base license for the more expensive D365 Sales/Service Enterprise licenses.
Which is fine, but also really confusing for customers when they're new to D365 licenses. Not really ideal when D365 licensing is already complex for the average customer, that even basic rules are getting exceptions.
The Base/Attach model is still driven by the highest-priced qualifying Base license. Microsoft's price increase created some edge cases, which is why they later adjusted the licensing rules to allow certain licenses (such as D365 Premium in the example) to qualify as the Base license even when another license became more expensive.
For existing customers, the impact depends on renewal timing and license mix. I'd recommend reviewing the latest licensing guide and confirming with your Microsoft partner, as Microsoft has introduced exceptions to avoid unintended cost increases caused purely by pricing changes.
