Dynamics 365 Business Central on-premises availability for customers with enhancement plan

Microsoft announced that Dynamics 365 Business Central on-premises will only be available until March 31th of 2025. However, one of our Dynamics NAV customers with an active enhancement plan would like to upgrade to the newest version of Dynamics 365 Business Central on-premises at a later date, probably not until beginning of 2026. Will it be possible to make the transition for this customer from Dynamics NAV to Dynamics 365 Business Central on-premises in 2026?

  • This is what I got back from the team:

The end date mentioned in the announcement applies only to purchases by new customers of Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC) on-prem perpetual licenses. Service Plan (i.e., EP/AP/APP) license transition policies (e.g., NAV perpetual to BC on-prem perpetual) are unchanged.

I hope that helps. - jill

It's new news to me that BC on-premises will stop per april 2025, but lets say that's the case. I assume the customer would not be able to purchase new BC on-premises licenses, also not with an upgrade.

You could then consider Dual Use Rights (DUR). Purchase BC cloud licenses, apply DUR, get latest version of BC on-premises for free.
