Unable to view Active user and unable to add shared mailbox

Hi Team,

I'm trying to add a shared mailbox under MS 365 Admin, I am unable to
1. Add a new user (admin role error)
2. View active user (which I'm logged in with)
3. Add a shared mailbox (retry again/ from last few days)
4. Contact Support - error loading chat

Any help would be appreciated.

You can try PowerShell if you are an Exchange or Global Admin

Additionally, you can find help by visiting the link below

  • Seems this is a permission and role assignment issue in Microsoft 365 Admin that blocks adding shared mailboxes and viewing active users. Only accounts with the Exchange admin role (or Global admin with proper RBAC permissions) can create shared mailboxes, and the subscription type must include Exchange Online.
