Shared Mailbox Permissions for Groups

In Microsoft 365 Admin Centre I have a Shared Mailbox ("myMailbox")

I would like to add Read and Manage permissions to this mailbox for a Group of users ("myGroup").

Is this possible?

The end goal is to be able to give multiple (say 100) users Read access to one Shared Mailbox - currently the only way this is possible is to give each individual member the permission. I was hoping to be able to create a group, add the members to that group and then grant permissions to that group (essentially Group-Based Access Control).

Thanks!

Rich

  • Sure, it's possible. The group must be security-enabled though (i.e. mail-enabled security group). And keep in mind that adding Full access permissions via group will result in the Automapping functionality not working, as in the shared mailbox will not automatically surface in Outlook for the user(s). If that is a requirement, the only way is to add individual permission entries.
