People Settings Appear in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center

The Org Settings section of the Microsoft 365 admin center has a new People Settings section where you can choose properties for the Microsoft 365 profile card instead of using PowerShell. The kicker is that the old method of using Exchange custom properties to customize what appears on the profile card is being replaced with standard Entra ID properties. A migration is needed, and it’s easily done with PowerShell.

This is a welcome change—having People Settings directly in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center makes profile card customization much more accessible, especially for admins who prefer GUI over PowerShell. Moving away from Exchange custom properties toward standard Entra ID attributes also feels like the right step for consistency across the Microsoft ecosystem. The fact that migration can still be done easily with PowerShell is great for those managing at scale. It’ll be interesting to see how quickly organizations adopt this and whether Microsoft eventually deprecates all Exchange-based profile card customizations in favor of Entra-only management.
