How do email onmicrosoft domains work to the actual domain?

So I have an email thats being used with a system. The email is on the lines of "support {at} domainname . c0m" . Now this works fine for the support system, but the system sends back an email on the line of "support {at} domainname . onmicrosoft. com".

So when you reply to it, its like your replying to a completely different email to the original and confuses the system. If it helps, they both show up as smtp:xxxxxx in the properties area and from what I gather, the onmicrosoft in an internal domain?

Is there a default one you can use?

If it helps, the system is Jira Service Management. Cheers

  • Generally speaking, in Exchange you can only send from the primary SMTP address, the one with capital SMTP prefix. So in your case, make sure the address you want to use is set as the primary one.

Thanks Vasil, this was very helpful. The onmicrosoft was indeed set as the primary SMTP. We've now updated it to the actual address I want and the problem has been resolved. Cheers!
