It might be due to cpu overload.

    1. Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager.
    2. In the Performance tab, you can see the CPU status and highest-consuming applications.
    3. End those that are not related to screen recording so you can free up the CPU.

CPU overload can cause screen recording to stop automatically. Because recording software like OBS or Windows Game Bar relies heavily on CPU resources to capture video. If there is no much resources, the recorder will unable to handle the process and stop.

Many recording tools depend on system-level features. Ensure these are correctly configured:

Enable and Update Xbox Game Bar:

Go to Settings > Gaming > Xbox Game Bar and ensure it is set to On.

Open the Microsoft Store, click the Library icon, and check for any pending updates for "Xbox Game Bar" to ensure you have the latest version.

Go to Settings > Gaming > Screenshots and turn off Record audio while recording gameplay, then update your graphics card drivers.

It sounds like you're experiencing instability with third-party screen recording software—crashing, icon disappearance, and failed recordings after a few minutes. This can be caused by various issues, including software bugs, driver conflicts, system resource limitations, or compatibility problems.

  • When screen recording tools crash after a few minutes in Windows 10, it’s usually caused by one of three things:

    1. GPU driver issues Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers often cause encoder failures. Try reinstalling the latest driver from NVIDIA/AMD/Intel rather than Windows Update.
    2. Hardware acceleration conflicts Many recorders use NVENC/AMD VCE/Intel QuickSync. If the encoder fails, the app closes silently. Disable hardware acceleration in the recorder and test again.
    3. Background overlays Xbox Game Bar, Discord overlay, Steam overlay or GeForce Experience can interfere with third‑party recorders. Disable them temporarily to check if stability improves.

If you can share the name of the recording software and your GPU model, it will be easier to pinpoint the cause.
