When screen recording tools crash after a few minutes in Windows 10, it’s usually caused by one of three things:
- GPU driver issues Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers often cause encoder failures. Try reinstalling the latest driver from NVIDIA/AMD/Intel rather than Windows Update.
- Hardware acceleration conflicts Many recorders use NVENC/AMD VCE/Intel QuickSync. If the encoder fails, the app closes silently. Disable hardware acceleration in the recorder and test again.
- Background overlays Xbox Game Bar, Discord overlay, Steam overlay or GeForce Experience can interfere with third‑party recorders. Disable them temporarily to check if stability improves.
If you can share the name of the recording software and your GPU model, it will be easier to pinpoint the cause.
