Edge Sync w/ MS 365 Basic and Business Standard
Hi, I noticed that some of my customers with MS 365 Basic and Business Standard plans can sync their MS Edge information, while others can't. Based in this article, sync only works with plans that include Azure AD Premium P1 and P2, Microsoft 365 Business Premium, and EDU. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-enterprise-sync Could it be that MS is starting to expand to smaller plans? Is there an article with details about this? Thanks...Daniel VelezNov 08, 2020Brass Contributor36KViews5likes92CommentsLogin with AzureAD Account sync instantly goes in "Error" state
Hi Please see this video about my problem: https://youtu.be/atxOfCJBKRE To recap in words, When I sign-in with my personal AzureAD account to Edge Dev and Canary (Newest builds 78.0.262.0/78.0.267.0) it instantly goes into Error state. I have tried on 3 different PC's. 2 of them newly installed Win10 1903 setup and logged in directly with the AzureAD credentials. So it's not a PC problem, cause as the video shows I have two other profiles, which both are setup with AzureAD account sync. EDIT: It hasn't worked in previous builds either.nOrphfSep 05, 2019Brass Contributor45KViews3likes88CommentsRoamingProfileSupportEnabled - referred to in other policies desc but no policies designed to set it
Hi, I am preparing the deployment of Microsoft Edge (Chromium), I've downloaded the MSI and GPO templates and have started going through them. I've set everything I pretty much need to but have hit a hiccup which I'm hoping for some clarity on. I wish for all AppData to save to the Roaming profile instead of Local profile for my users. This is doable on Google Chrome by setting the policy named "Enable the creation of roaming copies for Google Chrome profile data" to "Enabled" which then sets the "RoamingProfileSupportEnabled" registry entry to "1". There does not appear to be a policy which sets this functionality for Edge but in the policy named "Disable synchronization of data using Microsoft sync services" it states in the description "Do not enable this policy when the policy 'RoamingProfileSupportEnabled' is enabled." - this proves that the functionality is there in some sense or will eventually be there. I tried to manually enter this registry key in HKCU>Software>Policies>Microsoft>Edge and when you launch Edge it does not load up the application unfortunately but it does create the folder "Edge" and "User Data" inside the Roaming AppData folders. So potentially Edge is just crashing because of this key. If I remove the registry key or set it to "0" then Edge works again but the data is still stored to Local AppData. Is functionality supposed to be enabled in v79 or v80 (beta)? Or is this something for future development? This is the only thing causing me to not roll this out for our users currently. For enterprise a policy like the one in IE called "Go to an intranet site for a one-word entry in the Address bar" is very needed. As an enterprise we have a lot of intranet sites and services using one-word hostnames and abreviations like "mc", "servicedesk" etc. that our users are used to just being able to type in their browser. In Edge that will just launch a search on Google or Bing instead. Teaching the users to type http:// every time is nearly impossible and not very user friendly. We use the policy in IE, but it sadly never came to Edge. It would be great if it could be added to the new Edge (Chromium) admx.SolvedToMMeRAug 02, 2019Brass Contributor20KViews9likes53CommentsRefresh Enterprise Mode Site List
If there is a new version of the Enterprise Mode Site List (XML) available, how is the update process in Edge C to that? In MSIE we had to wait 65 seconds after start of MSIE and in Edge there is an "Force Update" button. But how to refresh in Edge C?stesch79Aug 30, 2019Iron Contributor63KViews0likes50CommentsAdobe Reader integration
Hi team How can we enable the Adobe Reader as the default PDF handler in Edge or disable the internal PDF viewer? We appreciate your efforts regards PDF handling, but Adobe Reader is still required in our enterprise to view PDF in browser. Hello, after I upgraded from 102.0.1245.41 to 103.0.1264.49, Smartscreen doesn't work anymore and downloads are displayed after about 20 seconds. With 103.X no warnings are shown at https://demo.smartscreen.msft.net, but with 102.X I get some. The error also occurs in Beta (104.0.1293.25) and Dev (105.0.1321.0). The problem only seems to occur on a terminal server farm (Server 2016 + Citrix virtual Apps and Desktops CU5) and VDI environment (Windows 10 + Citrix virtual Apps and Desktops CU5). Windows Defender is disabled as we are using Sophos AV. As soon as I start a test at https://demo.smartscreen.msft.net, or download a file, the process swi_fc (Sophos Web-Protection) tries to connect to various IPs ( for example 20.67.219.150, 20.73.130.64, 20.86.849.62). Port 443 is used. When I disable Sophos Web-Protection, MSEdge initiates the same connections. In both cases, the connection is not opened via proxy. Sophos or Edge try to open the connections directly. However, this is forbidden in our system, which is probably the reason for the 20 second timeout on downloads. If I set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge\NewSmartScreenLibraryEnabled = 0 the error is gone. Warnings and downloads work again and I don't see any failed connections from swi_fc or msedge. However, with Edge 105, the old library is no longer delivered. So this is not a permanent solution. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-relnote-stable-channel#version-1020124550-june-23 Allowing direct connections via port 443 also fixes the problem. Does anyone have any ideas what I could do?SolvedKrinto1100Jul 20, 2022Copper Contributor12KViews2likes42CommentsHow to hide the First Run Experience in the new Microsoft Edge?
One of the most frequent Enterprise asks around the new First Run Experience has been for a way to hide the new First Run Experience. It could be that you do not want your users to change these configurations which you are already managing via other policies. Or perhaps you want your users to get immediately productive without fiddling with any configurations. Whatever the reason, we’ve got you covered! We have been working hard on your feedback, and starting with Microsoft Edge 80 (Stable) you can now use the new browser policy HideFirstRunExperience to do just that! This new policy is a frictionless way for the users of your managed devices to go directly to the browser startup page without seeing any configuration or welcome message at first run. When this policy is enabled, all the configurations which are currently shown in the first run experience will be set to sane defaults. Existing user data from the edgeHTML-based Microsoft Edge Legacy version will still be migrated over to the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge. However, the user data from no other browser will be imported automatically. In the New Tab Page, the feed type will be set to use MSN News alongwith the Inspirational layout. The user will still be automatically signed into Microsoft Edge, if the Windows account is of AAD or MSA type. Sync of browser data will not be enabled by default and users will be able to turn on sync from the sync settings. You can still manage all the various core configurations currently shown in the first run experience, using existing browser policies which can work in combination with the HideFirstRunExperience policy. Some of these are: AutoImportAtFirstRun - Automatically import another browser's data and settings at first run NewTabPageLocation - Configure the new tab page URL NewTabPageSetFeedType - Configure the Microsoft Edge new tab page experience SyncDisabled - Disable synchronization of data using Microsoft sync services BrowserSignin - Specify whether a user can sign into Microsoft Edge with their account and use account-related services like sync and single sign on. NonRemovableProfileEnabled - Configure whether a user always has a default profile automatically signed in with their work or school account If you disable or don't configure this policy, the First-run experience and the Welcome screen will be shown.rishavsharanFeb 01, 2020Microsoft45KViews4likes38CommentsBrowsingDataLifetime crashes Edge
Edge 120 (stable, beta and dev) all seem to be crashing on launch when the BrowsingDataLifetime is set. I've cleared all other policies to rule out any conflicts and set the policy to the example in the policy reference. We only had the policy in test, so there's no impact to us, but it is still concerning.db1080Dec 11, 2023Brass Contributor4.1KViews1like37Comments
