I have a scenario with external users. I created a custom permission level for these users. The custom permission level is a copy of the default "Read" permission level, but I unchecked the "View application pages" permissions. The external users are however still able to see the site contents page and, even worse, the 'site usage' page. I also activated the "Limited-access user permission lockdown mode" site collection feature. And I tried to work with limited access for external users, but then they don't have access at all. Is there a way to achieve what I want? A permission level where (external) users are not able to see site contents and site usage page? Thanks in advance!154KViews1like52Comments"Shared with Us" link in Modern SharePoint Menu (behavior)?
Can anyone explain the behavior of the "Shared With Us" link in the left menu of the modern sharepoint sites? Specifically dealing with a Group-connected site at the moment. But the link keeps appearing sometimes, disappearing sometimes, it causes "subbullets" under the Documents to become subbullets under the "Shared With Us".115KViews17likes51CommentsSharePoint List calculated column formula using a Lookup column reference
Given: A SharePoint List (SPL) called Contractors with the following columns: ContractorID // Display name of the default ID column ContractorName Another SPL called Reports with the following columns: ReportID // Display name of the default ID column ReportNumber // Calculated column Contractor_ID // Lookup column referring to the ContractorID column of the Contractors SPL The calculated column, ReportNumber, would have a formula similar to: = [ReportID] & "-" & Contractor_ID Question: Does SharePoint Lists support the use of a Lookup column in the formula of a calculated column? If so, I need help on the proper syntax for the formula. (The formula above is not working) Thanks in Advance84KViews1like9CommentsUsing Sharepoint as Virtual Data Room (VDR)
I am very new to SharePoint and I have been tasked to set up a VDR using SharePoint. It is for sharing and collaborating with external partners. Important features of a VDR are, but not limited to: 1) User Management and Control (User login, Login auto expiry, Assigning access permission etc) 2) Data Management and Control (Access permission, watermarking, cannot download/save, cannot print, cannot edit etc) 3) User Activity Report (when did user login, frequency of login, which files, etc) I am not able to find much resources for this. I am wondering anyone here has any experience setting up a VDR via Sharepoint. And if you could share best practice or any advice, will be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance. Hi all, I have an excel file that is stored on teams. We have multiple users working on multiple sheets across this one file at any one time. Autosave is on when updates occur to this file. All users are accessing the file through a shortcut link on their desktop. This comes from the synced version of the sharepoint folder that contains the excel file, that is now on their file explorer tab. I can see the changes that one group is making to one sheet on the file. Another group is updating another sheet, however no one can see their changes except locally on their computer. When you try to save and exit, it deletes all their data. For reference, the users that are having this issue are using a generic production windows login, but their own personal windows login for teams/sharepoint to be able to access the file. Thank you for any help. Apologies if I have been cryptic, I can't share photos due to sensitive information.50KViews0likes4CommentsRemoving the Quick Launch & Keeping the Global Navigation Bar in SP Online to max Screen Real Estate
Hi SharePoint Experts, I am a business guy that is trying to develop my department's SharePoint Online site. I understand the benefits, and know the basics of the "Quick Launch menu" links (navigation specific to the site) and top "Navigation Menu Bar" links (global navigation visible across all site pages). I want to keep my Navigation Menu Bar across the top (which I built like a "mega menu," to enable users to jump from site to site). However, on some of my SPO sub sites, I want the ability to completely hide the left side Quick Launch in an effort to maximize my page's horizontal real estate. If I go to Site Settings --> Navigation Elements --> Uncheck the box for "Enable Quick Launch"......then it removes all of the quick launch links on the sub site with the exception of Site Contents. And given that site contents still shows (despite disabling quick launch), my overall page layout did not shift to the left to cover where the Quick Launch used to be. Note, I am doing this all out-of-the-box. I am not a code writer and would HUGELY appreciate if you could provide a recommendation for me to 1) completely hide the Quick Launch, 2) have my site layout shift left and use the full horizontal screen, and 3) allow for my Global Navigation Launch to be unaffected. Thank you in advance! Doug Doerhoff50KViews0likes21CommentsPrinting a document directly from a SharePoint document library
I am tring to figure out if there is a way to print a document directly from a document library list without opening the document up. Users are use to right-clicking on a Word document in Windows Explorer, selecting the Print option from the menu and having the doucment automatically print. I have not been able to reproduce this process in SharePoint Online. Any one have any ideas on how thsi can be done? Thanks.46KViews0likes8CommentsSharing a Shortcut and Hyperlink in File Explorer
We're essentially an engineering company so a lot of our users are highly 'productive' so doing any work directly in the 'Teams' app is completely non-functional. When we were using mapped network drives, users could easily share shortcuts because they pointed to a common location. e.g. "U:\Work\Engineering\myDoc.docx". Today users still need this ability to create and share shortcuts. Is there any way a user can simply create and share both hyperlink to a location/file with other users? I have tried variations of UNC paths (below) however most users can't access this, or links to files download something with a ".download" file extension. https://xxxx.sharepoint.com/sites/Shared%20Documents Any help would be much appreciated, Andrew45KViews1like16Comments
