1290 TopicsOctober 2026 Windows Update causing major issues
We have had about 50 computers in our organization giving boot failures after Windows restarts to apply the October update, KB5127648. Affected machines are Dell devices, both laptops and desktops. The most common error message is "file missing or containing errors \windows\system32\winload.efi" The only fix for now is to try booting into Safe Mode and uninstall the October update. We use a 3rd party tool to patch our devices, Automox, but manually triggering updates from Windows Settings yields similar results. But what I have noticed is that when running Windows Update from Settings, multiple drivers and firmware udpates are also being installed, so I'm wondering if there is incompatibility with outdated stuff in our machines. So we're pushing Dell updates for drivers, firmware, and BIOS, along with Windows Updates hoping that this will take care of the issue. Has anyone else experienced anything similar with this update? Or have any ideas on what may be the root cause in our case? Any feedback will be much appreciated.5.4KViews1like13CommentsKB5127648 update

Hello, I've been getting this error message when trying to run Windows update on Win 11 25H2 64bit "Something went wrong. Try to reopen settings later" I have searched for solutions and have various steps I have followed with the results below Make sure the windows update processes are running, and restart them if needed Result - They were always running No change Clear-out the Windows Update cache and restart Result - My Anti-Virus stopped BITS from shutting down. After removing my Anti-Virus I was able to clear the cache and restart the PC No change Run "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" and "sfc /scannow" These actually produce errors and won't run DISM - Error 87 with the message "The Cleanup-Image option is unknown" SFC - error message "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service" Run CHKDSK on the C:\ drive Result - Complete No Change Reset Windows OK, I haven't done this yet as it wipes out my applications and data (more on that below) What I did do was get my Windows installation media and run setup hoping it would reinstall windows while keeping my applications and data. I got a generic Windows Installation Failed message Why I don't want to do a reset I have Viso Professional 2016 on the PC (legitimate, activated with a licence key and not using an account). I actually want to move this Visio to a different device. But when I install it; both the online activation and phone activation fail. Doing a reset means I lose the application completely Any other suggestions where I get to keep my applications would be appreciated.
The KB5124008 update has disabled my external Lexicon Alpha Studio audio interface. There are numerous reports on forums indicating that this issue is affecting many users. I am receiving Error Code 10: the device is detected and appears in the system, but Windows is unable to start it. Unfortunately, I reinstalled my system because I initially thought I had a virus, and now I cannot even uninstall this update because it is integrated into the Windows installation media. I am 100% certain that the update is causing the problem. I tested the device on another computer, where it works perfectly, and the USB port itself is also functioning correctly. I also installed an older version of Windows that does not include this update, and the Lexicon Alpha works normally there as well. This clearly indicates that KB5124008 is causing the incompatibility. We kindly ask Microsoft to investigate this issue and release a fix as soon as possible. This update has rendered a perfectly functional audio interface unusable for many users.888Views1like6CommentsTitle: Easy Anti-Cheat stops working after Windows update, and Windows Update settings won't open
Title: Easy Anti-Cheat stops working after Windows update, and Windows Update settings won't open Hello Microsoft Engineering Team, I have been experiencing a persistent issue with Easy Anti-Cheat ever since my PC reset and installed a Windows update. Whenever I try to launch Rocket League, Easy Anti-Cheat opens briefly and then immediately closes, preventing the game from launching properly. The game works when Easy Anti-Cheat is disabled, which makes me suspect a compatibility issue. I also tried to roll back to a previous Windows update, but when I open Windows Update in Settings, I receive an error saying that it cannot open and to try again later. This happens every single time. So far, I have tried downloading a Windows ISO file and reinstalling Windows, as well as completely resetting my PC four separate times. Unfortunately, none of these attempts have resolved the issue, and the same problem returns every time. I have also checked the Windows security settings related to Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection, but turning that setting off did not fix the issue. At this point, I have exhausted the troubleshooting options I know of. I would greatly appreciate it if the Windows engineering team could investigate whether a Windows update or compatibility issue is causing Easy Anti-Cheat to fail, and why Windows Update settings are no longer accessible. I have already spent a significant amount of time trying to resolve this, including resetting my PC multiple times, without success. Thank you for your time and assistance. I would appreciate any help identifying the root cause of this issue and finding a permanent solution.15Views0likes0CommentsFile History timestamp sync bug still broken in KB5124010 - Anyone else?
To the Microsoft technical team Hi everyone,Quick post to see if anyone else is still running into File History timestamp sync issues on the latest builds. Test Environments: Laptop: Windows 11 25H2 (OS Build 26200.8973) Desktop: Windows 10 22H2 (OS Build 19045.7725) Home version The Issue:This problem started back in July (KB5101684 / KB5120249). While KB5124010 fixed the scheduled backup failure and Reconnect drive prompt from KB5124008, the timestamp and version sync bugs remain unfixed: Triggering Run now manually in Control Panel does not update the Last backed up timestamp to the current time. For newly created files (such as Word files), File Properties > Previous Versions displays: No previous versions are available. Changes to the contents of older files will not display the latest timestamp version; only the date and time of the previous version will be shown. A new entity version of the file has been created without any modifications. Other users (including community members in Japan and previous discussion threads) have confirmed identical behavior. File History is essential for daily backups, so getting this sorted out is critical.I'm really on the verge of a breakdown... Hopefully, the security patch will be completed in October. If you are experiencing this issue, please upvote and comment on my Feedback Hub report so the Windows engineering team prioritizes a fix: Feedback Hub Link: https://aka.ms/AA13n22w525Views0likes10CommentsIs there a good Stage Manager alternative for Windows 11 in 2026?
I use a large monitor and often keep several apps open across the screen, but constantly looking toward the corners gets uncomfortable. Im looking for a better way to manage windows. I like Stage Manager on iPad because the active app stays large and centered while others appear as thumbnails on the side — switching feels clean and easy. I ve tried FancyZones and virtual desktops, but they don t quite match that experience. Is there a Windows 11 tool in 2026 that keeps the current app focused while showing other open apps on the side?210Views0likes2Comments
