SharePoint Video Playback Quality Defaults to 480p – Horrendous
I manage multimedia training for over 600 locations and two distribution centers, supporting nearly 10,000 team members. We have made a significant investment in producing high-quality training content through professional equipment, structured scripting, and dedicated production and editing time. However, once videos are uploaded to SharePoint, the default playback quality often degrades the experience to what appears to be approximately 480p. As a result, professionally produced content can look noticeably poor on initial playback. Many of our store-level team members are not in a position to manually adjust playback settings, so the default experience matters. The source files are high resolution, but the default playback does not reflect that quality. This also creates issues when leadership reviews training content, because the playback quality can reflect poorly on the production even though the original video is clear. We moved away from third-party hosting due to ad exposure during onboarding and the need for a controlled internal platform. We are intentionally using SharePoint and Stream as part of our existing Microsoft 365 ecosystem for scalability, governance, and centralized access. Introducing additional paid hosting platforms or external streaming solutions is not a direction we are pursuing. From an enterprise training standpoint, defaulting to low-resolution playback undermines engagement and credibility. Are there plans to allow administrators to define a default playback resolution for SharePoint or Stream videos? Are there recommended encoding settings that influence the initial playback quality more reliably? Are there roadmap updates around improving adaptive streaming behavior or default resolution selection? Any guidance or insight would be appreciated.
Linking documents/pictures to other sites?
What is the correct way to use documents and images stored in a Home Site library on other SharePoint sites? I need to embed images and create hyperlinks to documents on pages in other sites. I have been using the “Copy link” button, which creates a sharing link with individual user permissions. The problem is that if I move the picture to another folder within the same library, the image sometimes disappears from the page. Occasionally the share link still works after moving the file, but not always. What is the recommended way to do this, and is it fully supported?
Desperate for Help: Access Issues with Draft Site on SharePoint
Hello, community! I really need your help. I have been working hard on a site in SharePoint, using Microsoft 365 for Business, which is currently in draft mode, and to my frustration, I can no longer access it. After months of dedication and effort, I feel completely powerless in this situation. When I try to click on the site link, I am redirected to a different page, and to make matters worse, an irrelevant file starts downloading automatically. This is extremely frustrating for me, as the site was almost ready to be launched, and now it feels like all my work is at stake. Here are the details of the situation: - Site Link: Accessing the link I used previously simply doesn’t work anymore. - Redirection: When I click, I’m taken to a completely different page. - Automatic Download: A file unrelated to the site is being downloaded to my computer. - Site Status: Everything was finalized and ready for publication, but now I feel out of options. If anyone has experienced something similar or has any idea how I can resolve this issue, I would be eternally grateful. I’m desperate for a solution, and any help would be very much appreciated! Looking to see if anyone else has this experience/any solutions: You add a File & Media webpart to a SPOnline page, link it to a PowerPoint file. The first slide has a hyperlink, but that link isn't clickable when the page first loads. If you move to another slide, links work correctly, including when you move back to the first slide. Any way to get this functionality to work correctly with the File & Media webpart? Slides work fine when you open in PPT, no amount of recreating the PowerPoint works, but switching to the "Embed" webpart solves the problem.
PnP Search Results Handlebars template saves but does not reflect on UI
Hi everyone, I am working with the PnP Search Results web part in SharePoint Online and facing an issue where a custom Handlebars result template saves successfully but does not reflect on the UI. I created a table-style Handlebars template with columns Document, Region, Country, Language, Status and Validation Date, one row per document. Documents are returned correctly and filters based on the same refinable properties work as expected. Debug output using JSONstringify(item) confirms that all refinable values are present. The same if-condition logic using item.RefinableStringXX works in a list-style layout, but in a table layout the template saves without errors and either does not reflect on the UI or renders rows with empty metadata columns. Inline bindings do not render unless wrapped in if blocks and even after fixing this the UI sometimes continues to show the previous layout. Managed property mappings, selected properties, indexing and library reindexing have already been verified. Has anyone experienced this behavior with PnP Search Results templates or knows if this is related to caching, result types overriding templates or a known limitation with table-style Handlebars layouts?Page Redirection
Hello, I am trying to simulate a migration scenario in SharePoint Online and am running into a limitation I cannot resolve. For demo/testing purposes, I have two SharePoint Online sites (e.g. Old and New). I would like to redirect a small number of individual pages from the old site to corresponding pages in the new site, while the rest of the old site remains unchanged. Example: Redirect https://ps3c.sharepoint.com/sites/Old/SitePages/Test.aspx to https://ps3c.sharepoint.com/sites/New/SitePages/Test.aspx The page is a modern SharePoint page, and the URL itself is fixed for the purpose of the demo (i.e. users or tools open the page directly on *.sharepoint.com). All documentation I could find only describes redirecting entire SharePoint sites, not individual modern pages. Client-side approaches (JavaScript, HTML meta refresh, etc.) also appear to be blocked in modern SharePoint. Is there any supported or recommended way in SharePoint Online to implement page-level redirects for modern pages, or is this currently not supported by design?
