We are a small business with two HP Servers(HPE ProLiant DL380) virtualized with ESXi, containing 7 VMs of Windows Server OS(2016). As per Hardware documentation, each server has single processor with 10 cores each. So that should make 20 Cores total. I did search about Microsoft Licensing and it says core based can have two VMs if 16 Core licenses are purchased. Can anyone help me about How many Windows Server 2016 STD Licenses should I purchase to accommodate 7 VMs. If I purchase 1 Remote Desktop Device CALs for each of VM's (Total:7), multiple users in the domain can RDP login to the server?4KViews0likes3CommentsCan we can use activate license key of window server 2003 in other platform.
I have few windows production servers which are still in windows server 2003 version. Currently we are planning a total revamp to windows server 2016 existing windows environment. My question is if I reinstall the OS 2003 into 2016 on the same physical hardware, should I able to use the registered license key for 2003 into latest 2016 for activation.3.5KViews0likes2CommentsAre CALs needed when running 3rd party software on Windows Server?
Are user/device CALs required to run 3rd party proprietary applications, such as VOIP or CRM servers that open a TCP Port for clients to connect? Or do I only need user/device CALs if clients access actual Windows Server Features such as DHCP/DNS/AD?2.9KViews1like4CommentsServer Essentials 2019 with Hyper-V DC - automated shutdown/license issue
I migrated from Small Business server 2008 to 2019 and read that I could setup the system to be a Host and VM using Hyper-V. The host keeps turning off and I found an error in the logs telling me that "The Non-domain Member Check policy detected a condition in your environment that is out of compliance with the licensing policy. This server can only be in a workgroup or be a domain controller." Do I need to remove the host from AD?1KViews0likes1CommentMicrosoft Windows Server 2016 License tracker
I have a client who currently has 50 Windows 2016 datacenter virtual machines and 10 SQL 2017 installations licenced under the Service Provider Licence Agreement, each of which has a Per Core licence (SPLA). The virtual machines run on five hosts, each of which has two physical CPUs and 18 cores per socket for the virtual machines. The question now is, does Windows come with a tool that I can use to track the licence utilisation (core-based licensing)? Since I am required to provide this to my SPLA team on a monthly basis, I believe that automating this process is preferable to doing it manually.793Views0likes1CommentWindows Server 2022 Licensing
Hello Everyone, We currently have a server with 2x16 CPU cores. On this server, "Windows Server 2022 Standard" is installed. Five virtual servers are planned to run on this server. Currently, we have the following licenses: 1 x "WINSVR 2022 STD AddLic 16 Core ROK" 2 x "WINSVR 2022 STD AddLic 4 Core ROK" 1 x "Windows Svr Std 2022 64 Bit 1 pk DS P OEI DVD 24 Core" (This license was already activated on another server, which no longer exists. Is it possible to transfer this license to the new server?) Are these licenses sufficient, or which additional licenses would be required?602Views0likes1CommentWindows Server License Migration from SPLA Agreement to CSP
A MSP Partner purchased a SPLA agreement from a Microsoft distributor and started using server licenses and Cal licenses for their customer's servers. As a SPLA customer, they have used as many license on monthly basis and activated new server with the license Keys from SPLA. Now if the partner shifts to CSP and purchase equivalent license, how will the active servers affect? Does the partner need to update new license keys on each server or whether they can continue using old keys on servers that were activated?454Views0likes0CommentsWindows Server Licensing
Hello, We’re currently reviewing our licensing options before migrating VMs to Azure. At the moment, we have Azure Hybrid Benefits, and we also have some free Windows Server Standard licenses available through the Partner Center. Could we apply these standard licenses to cover VM cores, even though only Datacenter version images appear available when creating a VM in the Azure portal? The documentation isn’t entirely clear on this, and I’ve come across conflicting information online. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/get-started/azure-hybrid-benefit?tabs=azure#number-of-licenses Thank you!82Views0likes1Comment
