Show a notification when VPN connection disconnects on its own - PPTP/L2TP/SSTP/IKeV2 - built in Windows 10 connection There needs to be a notification when VPN connection automatically and silently disconnects on its own. when the VPN server drops the connection or something happens to the VPN server/connection, the VPN on Windows 10 silently turns off and user is not notified, that makes us use the non-VPN connection without us knowing and causes further issue for our work. the VPN connection I'm referring to is made through Windows 10 settings =>Network & Internet => VPN. so please add a notification so Windows notifies us when this happens. upvote this suggestion in feedback hub app: https://aka.ms/AAah9mgSolved8.4KViews2likes8Comments[Resolved] Windows Sandbox has NO Internet when the host is connected to a VPN
When the host is connected to a VPN, such as PPTP/L2TP and then I launch Windows Sandbox, I have no internet in it. please fix this. this problem existed on build 19H1 and it still exists on build 20H1 (18885). Old post, no longer an issue.37KViews3likes28CommentsWindows should show a notification when VPN connection suddenly disconnects or drops
There is no notification from Windows when our built-in VPN connection (inside Windows) suddenly disconnects or VPN connections drops. it poses security risk as well as discomfort and other problems. there is a reason when user uses VPN connection, to stay protected, secure etc. so when VPN connection suddenly drops or disconnects for any reason, user must be notified. Show device's private IP address and Public IP address next to PC name in Windows Settings => System => Remote Desktop for faster and easier connection and usage. it makes sense to show them next to PC name, because remote desktop apps on other devices such as phones accept those 3 types of methods to find and connect to PC, but in Windows settings only 1 of them is shown. if you want to find the private IP address that DHCP gives you, you have to do extra work and get it from properties of network adapter etc. or to find your public IP address you have to use a 3rd party website or service. so, it all makes sense and makes things easier to have all 3 pieces of information right in the Windows Settings. I've tested this myself and have had other people test it in my presence too, and in different network conditions, having all 3 pieces of information is always useful and necessary for Remote desktop connection. Currently we have to use the system registry to change the Remote Desktop port, an easier way to do this would be to have an option in Windows settings =>System => Remote Desktop => Advanced Settings, under Remote Desktop port section, to do this. please add a text field with an apply button next to it to change Remote Desktop port. please upvote this feedback in Feedback hub, thank you: https://aka.ms/AAaetxu628Views0likes0CommentsHow to set my VPN connection as Non-metered in Windows 10?
I want to explicitly tell Windows 10 1909 to consider my VPN connection as non-metered. whenever I connect to my VPN server, created from the Windows settings, apps like Mail stop showing me notifications, Store won't automatically update apps and things like that. Windows by default thinks my VPN connection is set as metered. I went to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\DefaultMediaCost but there is no mention of my VPN connection's name I manually set them all to "1" which means Non-metered. can anyone help me set my VPN connection as Non-metered so Windows 10 can use Internet as much as it wants just like when I connect to Internet without VPN? Thanks More info on this: this is how advanced settings for WiFi looks like in Windows settings And this is how advanced settings for VPN looks like in Windows settings You see the part about "Metered Connection" is missing from VPN settings! Another thing I tried was disabling SlowLinkDetection in Registry, setting it to 0: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System\SlowLinkDetectEnabled It didn't help. I test it simply but sending an Email to myself on phone and watch for the notification banner on Windows 10. when I'm connected directly to WIFI, the notification banner appears as soon as the mail is arrived but when I'm connected to VPN, the notification banner only appears when I manually open the Mail app in Windows 10 (UWP). I use PPTP/SSTP protocols, set them up in Windows 10 settings natively.1.8KViews0likes0CommentsVPN connection is not automatically connecting after waking computer from sleep
When I put my PC to sleep, VPN connection is disconnected and when I wake it up, it stays disconnected. Windows should automatically reconnect it. this is a security issue and important concern, I don't want non-VPN (direct) connections. When connected directly to Internet in general (WIFI in my case), Task Manager shows each program's network usage in the network column, but after connecting to a VPN (PPTP/L2TP/SSTP), Task Manager shows 0% on all programs network usage, the only process that shows network usage is "System". so all of the computer network usage are gathered into one process. please change this behavior because it's not useful and very counterproductive. please Upvote this feedback: https://aka.ms/AA6pl4v3.1KViews0likes0Comments
