The SharePoint team is excited to announce we're adding three new web parts to the toolbox when creating team news articles and modern pages: Image gallery Bing maps Quick charts These new web parts are rolling out to First Release customers now… Note: only tenants that have First Release (FR) set to on for the entire tenant will see these features. Per user first release flighting is not applicable when creating new content that could be seen/viewed by non FR enabled users. What are modern pages you ask? “Modern team site pages are fast, easy to author and support rich multimedia content. And pages look great on any device, in a browser or from within the SharePoint app. Using pages is a great way to communicate and share your ideas—such as status and trip reports, how-to write-ups, know-before-you-go guides and frequently asked questions.” - from our blog post last year. Image gallery The Image gallery web part lets you share collections of pictures on a page. Simply select your images with the file picker, or drag them on to the web part. Once you’ve built your collection, you can reorder them with drag and drop as well. We support two beautiful layouts today: Tiles layout Mobile Larger screens Carousel layout Mobile Larger screens You can also add additional information about each image such as: Image title Image description Alternative text Looking forward, we will be listening to customer feedback and adding more layouts and features that highlight your images beautifully on pages. Bing maps This web part makes it easy to add a map to your page. Simply enter an address or a well-known location name, and your map dynamically appears. If you want to pick a different map type, you can of course do that... as well as change the zoom level, label your map pin with a friendly name, etc. Mobile Larger screens Depending upon your location, Bing maps may not support some map styles (e.g. Streetside view isn't available everywhere). Quick charts The Quick chart web part allows you to easily visualize simple data on your page. Enter your data points with labels, pick your chart type, and publish. We support two chart types today: Column Mobile Larger screens Pie Mobile Larger screens We have a lot more web parts in the works, some of which you can see highlighted in this session “Discover the new SharePoint content publishing experiences” (link jumps right to web part section); from #MSIgnite. As always, let us know what you think, and where we should invest more time. Thanks, The SharePoint Team53KViews16likes56CommentsModern Publishing Sites
Hello, Are there any news regarding the Modern Publishing Sites that should complement the Modern Team Sites? We're really waiting for those to be released in order to kick-off our new intranet project. To avoid any misunderstanding I'm talking about this kind of publishing experience: Thank you in advance, Ben13KViews10likes31CommentsIE9/IE10 users in SPO - Time to move to modern browsers!
Summary If you are one of the few organizations still accessing SharePoint Online using earlier versions of Internet Explorer, make it a new year's resolution to move to IE11 or Edge! Some new functionality coming to SharePoint Online in 2017 will require the latest version of IE, and users who are using older versions may be redirected to a page that tells them to upgrade their browsers. Details As most of you probably already know, Microsoft had announced the end of support for versions of Internet Explorer earlier than IE11 as of January of 2016. In SharePoint Online, our engineers have been taking care to not fundamentally break any critical functionality, and even avoided using some of the newer technologies in our pages to support these earlier browsers. One year down the line from end of support, with the usage of earlier versions of Internet Explorer now under a few percent of our users, we are finally starting to leverage some of these more advanced browser capabilities that earlier browsers do not support. This means if you are still using earlier versions of Internet Explorer you will start to see more "diminished experiences", and sometimes functionality will be completely broken. Other times, if a new experience requiring modern browser features detects that an earlier browser is being used, users will be redirected to a page that asks them to use a modern browser. There is no set time for this change, it will gradually happen over time as features are updated to use advanced browser capabilities. We had signaled the end of support in our earlier blog posts, especially for modern experiences we are building. We will reach out to specific customers where we see large percentage of IE9 and IE10 usage to ask these customers to move to IE11 or Edge. We are also in the process of updating our user facing documentation to indicate that IE11, Edge or another modern browser is required to access SharePoint Online.13KViews7likes12CommentsModern SharePoint and Search Results/Search Refiners Web Parts?
Any ETA on this in modern SharePoint? Or assurance that it will be included? We have so many search solutions, with custom display templates, so this will be another thing holding us back from adopting modern UI.15KViews7likes13CommentsQuestions about new Communication Sites
Hopefully simple questions I cant find answers for on the videos/blogs: Are communication sites limited to newly created sites? Can I apply the communication site pages to an existing publishing site or team site? What happens if we have self-service site creation turned off? Do admins have a way to manually create a communication site? Is it possible to turn my top-level tenant SharePoint home page into a "communication site"?5.3KViews6likes18CommentsSharepoint Modern events webpart - Where are my custom fields?
Hello, we have recently started adding modern pages to one of our classic team sites. We have a change control calendar with many custom fields tied to an approval workflow process. When we try to visualize this with the Events Webpart we do not receive the custom fields in the add new event page. Will we ever be able to see these or should we expect to have fall back to classic calendar pages for the unforeseen future?Solved21KViews5likes22CommentsScalable Vector Graphics (SVG) in SharePoint Online communication sites - Weird resizing behavior
Has anyone used SVG images on pages in modern communication sites yet? I was curious if people were seeing problems like we are... SVG images placed on the pages will resize with unexpected results, they resize to be small when we would expect they would fit to the container they were placed into.23KViews4likes10CommentsAnnouncement: SharePoint innovations further advance intelligence and collaboration in Office 365
