Windows 11 Calendar Widget "Sorry, events from this account can't be displayed"

Hello,

The calendar widget in Windows 11 shows "sorry, events from this account can't be displayed". Is there a fix for this?

  • MoseySlu lakshaya_kaushik If you go into the widgets menu and click on your profile photo, it should pull up a menu to select what widgets you want in the widgets menu. On the top right corner of that dialog menu does it show that you are using an outlook email or some other email?

See it shows this when I use my Gmail account,

    (Gmail Account)

But when I use my outlook account it works again,

    (Outlook Account)

Fortunately, there is an easy way to switch accounts. Though it is a bit of a faff and it doesn't really make sense why Microsoft is so ridiculous. Anyways, You have to hit the 'Sign in with a local account instead' button, it will then verify it is actually you making the changes via a password/pin input, after you do that it will take you to a page where you make a new password (I would recommend writing it down just in case you need it), Then hit 'Sign out and finish'.

After you do that the computer will sign you out and change your account data, the way I'm saying this sounds really edgy but it works. You don't lose any files this is just changing what account the computer belongs to. Getting back onto your computer will be the same password that you regularly use, I use a 4-digit pin and it works whether I'm using a local account or a Microsoft account.

When you sign back it (It takes a bit longer since the account you're signing into isn't stored in the cache yet), you have to go back to 'Change account settings' and now hit the button that used to say sign in with a local account but now says 'Sign in with a Microsoft account Instead' it will then ask you to sign in to your Microsoft account.  If you don't have a Microsoft account, you can create one by hitting the ‘Create One!’ link (You just have to make sure that the email ends in ‘@outlook.com’). After you sign in it will have to put in your Microsoft account password and then verify that it's you making the changes again via password/pin.

After you do that it will change your account to have the Outlook account and voila! You now are able to use the Outlook Calendar widget that is connected to your Outlook email. if it doesn't immediately update or tells you that the information is unavailable, you just have to go back to the widgets slide out, click on your profile photo, and then hit 'Sign out'. Then hit the 'Sign in as...' and it'll have updated to your current email.

Sorry it took so long to send this out to ya, I spent a lot of time on it and I had other obligations.

It seems insane to me that this issue is still not addressed by Microsoft. I upgraded from 10 to Windows 11 last week and, alas, the Outlook widget is still broken in the manner described in this thread. Since I do not want to use the workaround that involves tethering my login to Windows to a local account, the only trick that made it work was to create a new MS account using an Outlook.com email address and use that for the additional user account in Windows. After going onto Google calendar and copying secret address in ical format, then pasting that into "subscribe to a web calendar" on my newly created outlook.com email/calendar account the Outlook widget works--But, and it's a big but: It only works when logged onto window under the new user account that's anchored to the new outlook.com account I opened on Outlook Live.

When I log onto Windows with my administrator account that uses a gmail.com email address, it's back to the broken functionality in the Outlook widget. Toggling widgets on and off does not help. A restart of Windows doesn't work. The widget will only offer me to log into my main gmail based account if logged out of the outlook widget.

This would be such a fantastic tool to have on hand at the swipe of a finger or mouse click to see one's calendar events and reminders on the fly. A true "at a glance" helper for staying on top of one's schedule and obligations. But of course, not only has Microsoft apparently dropped the ball on functionality for a very large cross section of users, they appear to not be very concerned about making it function for the vast numbers of us effected. 😕

I had this same problem and I just found out how to fix it. I believe it is just Microsoft being, you know, Microsoft so they want you to use Edge, an Outlook email account, A registered Microsoft device, (and so on and so forth).

When you connect an email account to your Windows computer that isn't a "@outlook.com" I think Windows has a fit. The fix for this is quite simple though it does require you to use a different outlook account and thus a different email, calendar, to-do list, etc., etc..

Press the Windows Key > CLick on your Profile (Bottom left Corner) > Change Account settings

    • Under Account settings, you're going to need to sign into/create a different Microsoft account and thereby a different Microsoft Outlook account.
    • Once you have signed into your New Microsoft account you need to make sure that the Widgets menu knows that too (It seems kind of silly because it's the same computer, right? Lol), Just click on your profile picture on the top right corner of the Widgets pullout and hit sign out and then sign back in if it hasn't updated by that point. You might also be able to restart your computer to fix it to get everything to update but I didn't so yk...
    • I'm not sure where the stuff pertinent to the fix starts and stops, but after that, I signed into my new Microsoft account on Edge, and then the Calendar widget sort of just started working.

If this doesn't work let me know.

AldousFinn I want to add my O365 calendar to the Widget, my O365 account is listed under Accounts but Outlook Widget doesn't pull events or even show the O365 calendar. Any ideas?

thanks a lot! that makes a lot of sense considering it is Microsoft...I just wish sometimes tech companies shook hands for once, at least for the consumer's sake

      AldousFinn Hey,

Thanks a lot for the reply. When I go to Account Settings, it says "Sign in with local account instead" rather than allowing me to change my account. I tried going to my Microsoft Account settings and changing my alias but it does not work.

MoseySlu That's very disappointing. They should use the Calendar app for the widget, instead of the Outlook.  Because all my calendars I set up there, not in Outlook. This Windows 11 is very frustrating!

I was able to fix this by instead of adding or making a new account, instead switching my primary email address on my Microsoft account to outlook from gmail. Hope this helps.

This fixed several problems actually. And didn't prevent adding gmail to any apps.
