Windows 11 Calendar Widget "Sorry, events from this account can't be displayed"
- Sep 07, 2021
MoseySlu lakshaya_kaushik If you go into the widgets menu and click on your profile photo, it should pull up a menu to select what widgets you want in the widgets menu. On the top right corner of that dialog menu does it show that you are using an outlook email or some other email?
See it shows this when I use my Gmail account,(Gmail Account)
But when I use my outlook account it works again,
(Outlook Account)
Fortunately, there is an easy way to switch accounts. Though it is a bit of a faff and it doesn't really make sense why Microsoft is so ridiculous. Anyways, You have to hit the 'Sign in with a local account instead' button, it will then verify it is actually you making the changes via a password/pin input, after you do that it will take you to a page where you make a new password (I would recommend writing it down just in case you need it), Then hit 'Sign out and finish'.
After you do that the computer will sign you out and change your account data, the way I'm saying this sounds really edgy but it works. You don't lose any files this is just changing what account the computer belongs to. Getting back onto your computer will be the same password that you regularly use, I use a 4-digit pin and it works whether I'm using a local account or a Microsoft account.
When you sign back it (It takes a bit longer since the account you're signing into isn't stored in the cache yet), you have to go back to 'Change account settings' and now hit the button that used to say sign in with a local account but now says 'Sign in with a Microsoft account Instead' it will then ask you to sign in to your Microsoft account. If you don't have a Microsoft account, you can create one by hitting the ‘Create One!’ link (You just have to make sure that the email ends in ‘@outlook.com’). After you sign in it will have to put in your Microsoft account password and then verify that it's you making the changes again via password/pin.
After you do that it will change your account to have the Outlook account and voila! You now are able to use the Outlook Calendar widget that is connected to your Outlook email. if it doesn't immediately update or tells you that the information is unavailable, you just have to go back to the widgets slide out, click on your profile photo, and then hit 'Sign out'. Then hit the 'Sign in as...' and it'll have updated to your current email.
Sorry it took so long to send this out to ya, I spent a lot of time on it and I had other obligations.
AldousFinn Hey,
Thanks a lot for the reply. When I go to Account Settings, it says "Sign in with local account instead" rather than allowing me to change my account. I tried going to my Microsoft Account settings and changing my alias but it does not work.

- akjanithSep 06, 2022Copper ContributorThis really worked for me. Thanks!
- chidobeanMar 01, 2022Copper ContributorI went through all the steps per AldousFinn, and it did work in the sense that the error message went away from the widget, but I do not see a way to add my subscribed calendars that I added to my outlook.com account via the browser. I have 2 google calendars linked to my outlook.com account that I can view in the browser, but when I go to "customize widget", under "Select Calendars", it only shows three options: "Calendar, "Birthdays", and "United States Holidays". My subscribed calendars that show in-browser are not options. I've restarted my comp twice to see if it would update, but it has not.
Without a fix for this, the calendar widget appears to be essentially useless unless you actively use an outlook.com account. But who is going to change their email address just to use this widget? I don't understand why microsoft has removed all useful calendar functionality from Windows 11 to this point.- PurSpykJul 28, 2022Brass ContributorHaving to use an @outlook account is absolutely idiotic. This seems to affect the To Do widget as well. Widgets are a joke, the equivalent feature in Windows 10, although not widgets worked so much better. Widgets should work with your logon email, and not be limited. If this email can log onto outlook.com, then the information should be shown. Far to many stupid limitations to tools that could be of great benefit, but limited due to poor design choices.

AldousFinn Thanks for this.
It's crazy MS has made it this complicated - it should just work no matter what email address you are signed in as. I've decided not to bother and just not use the widget. Really poor implementation isn't it.
- MoseySluSep 07, 2021Brass ContributorI followed all of the steps and it worked! 🙂
Again, thanks for your time and have a great day.- JasonNovakSep 17, 2021Copper Contributor
I am having this issue too and am still stuck
I have a non-outlook.com microsoft account, I did have to create an outlook account a few years ago, adding it as an alias with my microsoft account, to be able to sync the calendar to Google.
However since it's an alias I can't add it as a 2nd MS account, nothing happens after signing in to add it, I assume because it knows it's the same account. And if I just delete original account and try to only add the alias, it adds the main MS account instead. I wish the widgets would let you just sign into an outlook account.
The live tile in Windows 10 showed the calendar fine with my non-outlook account. As someone who liked live tiles its disappointing even this won't work- DeZenTOct 04, 2021Copper Contributor
JasonNovak You can add a new outlook alias, changing it to be the main alias, and delete the original alias.
