- PburnsOccasional ReaderCan we secure/protect WSL with 3rd party anti-malware solutions in addition to the Defender plugin? We have already invested in another non-Microosft solution for AV.

QUESTION from George -- Looking at Intune/Co-Management at the moment, the biggest issue in Education is that most of our laptops/computers are shared and not 1:1. Intune in our testing has not worked well at all in this shared device model where policies are very hit-or-miss whether they apply promptly on logon, compared with Group Policy that 99.9% of the time applies at logon without issue. What do you recommend in this education shared-device scenario for intune/co-management? -- answered at 12:25.

I have IOC to block some domain, its working on host (win 11) but not working on WSL instance (ubuntu 22.04). Defender plugin installed and onboarded. Is this expected behavior of wsl instance ?

Welcome to AMA: Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) and the second annual Microsoft Technical Takeoff for Windows + Intune! Have a question? Post here in the Comments so we can help. Let’s make this an active Q&A!
- keith_hardsCopper ContributorThe long-standing issue preventing developers from working with WSL due to the WSL filesystem hanging needs sorting ASAP!! It's mentioned multiple times in https://github.com/microsoft/WSL/issues/6982 I'm now having to migrate to using a separate Linux box simply because WSL keeps hanging every couple of days and having to restart it with taskkill /f /im wslservice.exe
- BryanDamBrass ContributorIs there _any_ chance at all that the team will put any kind of meaningful effort into solving the long-standing problem of WSL trashing systems by consuming every available resource: https://github.com/microsoft/WSL/issues/6982 Two years and _hundreds_ of confirmed repro's ... and the only one seemingly taking any kind of interest in it is a Microsoft retiree.

- Scott_WertzCopper ContributorIs this correct? I don't hear this question mentioned at 22:00.
- RobinCMBrass ContributorIt seems as though WSL won't install via UAC - the interactive logon session needs to be signed in directly with a user that has admin rights. Will this be fixed soon please? This also breaks using anything else to enable WSL, e.g. SCCM, PowerShell/PowerShell Direct, and probably also Intune. There's also apparently a clock sync issue in WSL. I've worked around it using chrony and the Hyper-V PTP time source, but this really needs sorting urgently (unless it has been and I've missed it!). Otherwise, WSL works really nicely 😄

- Scott_WertzCopper ContributorSystem administrators are charged with keeping all computers patched and secured at all times. What tools are available to them to keep WSL installations, which are essentially computers running Linux, updated as promptly and comprehensively as we do for our Windows machines?

- AlAndersonCopper ContributorI'd like to deploy WSL along with pre-reqs and a Linux distro to my workstations in an automated fashion via ConfigMan or Intune. I can get things to work if I am logged to the workstation as local admin but for some reason the same scripts fail when deployed via ConfigMan or Intune. Any tricks or suggestions?
