Windows11 On-screen keyboard occasionally covers the password field on login screen
When signing in to Windows 11 using a touchscreen or tablet, the on-screen keyboard pops up but often obscures the password field, making it difficult to see what you're typing.
Dragging the keyboard only moves it temporarily; it returns to its original position the next time you sign in.
This issue occurs on Surface devices and other touch-enabled Windows laptops.

Hide and reopen the keyboard – tap the keyboard icon to close it, then tap the password field again.
Switch to floating keyboard – tap the keyboard settings icon (⚙️) at the top-right and select floating layout. You can then drag it above the password field.
Use a physical keyboard – plug one in and the on-screen keyboard will stay hidden.
The keyboard appears, but the sign-in screen does not keep the password field visible or remember its dragged position. The touch keyboard and accessibility On-Screen Keyboard are separate interfaces, and sign-in positioning is not reliably persistent. For a workaround, select Accessibility on the lower-right of the sign-in screen and open On-Screen Keyboard; use its navigation or repositioning controls, or choose a Windows Hello PIN, fingerprint, or face sign-in if available. After signing in, install Windows, graphics, touch, and device-firmware updates, then test in the device’s recommended orientation and native display scale. Disconnect secondary displays or docks for one sign-in test, because an incorrect display layout can place the focused field behind the keyboard. If this remains reproducible across Surface and other hardware, capture the model, build, scale, orientation, and a photo, then report it through Feedback Hub; there is no supported per-user setting that permanently positions the sign-in touch keyboard.
