Windows Update Trying to download and install Windows 10 updates on Windows 11 Laptop
All the support wants to do is reinstall my whole laptop which cannot be the only solution. I've been running Windows 11 for 5 weeks now. If I go into Windows Updates, it lists "Feature update to Windows 10, version 21H2 is available" yet I am on Windows 11. It is also trying to install drivers for Windows 10. Running the Windows Update Troubleshooter did nothing.
According to Run > Win Ver I am on Windows 11 Pro Version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.376).
Is there a way to completely reset Windows Updates so it starts checking for the correct version as everything is just Retry, Retry.

stevegs - thanks for this, your suggestion worked for me. A couple of points:
- For others trying to find the Windows Update Reset Tool, there are a lot of fraudulent copies out there. This one: https://wureset.com/downloads/ and this one: https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/reset_windows_update_tool.html both seem to be legit.
- Select option #2 as stevegs suggests.
- After it's done: REBOOT! (very key)
- The windows 11 troubleshooter can be accessed here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-update-troubleshooter-19bc41ca-ad72-ae67-af3c-89ce169755dd
- After you have done this, it will ask if the troubleshooter was successful. DO NOT REBOOT until you check to see if the Windows 10 updates have disappeared from the Windows Update section of the Settings menu. If they have, then go ahead and reboot. (Don't freakout when, during the reboot, the system says installing updates. I think it's actually removing them.)
- When you bring the system back up, check Windows Update again and you should see only Windows 11 updates.
TuanDung09022011 your suggestion would not work. While getting rid of the Windows.Old directory (which you can only do using this method: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/delete-windows-old-folder-in-windows-11.14587/ ) does get rid of the Windows 10 update files, it does NOT remove the update entries in the Windows Update settings menu. You will be stuck with "error" on the Windows 10 update entries forever, unless you do the bullet points I outlined above.
Thanks all - I just wanted to add more color so people didn't have to google around to put all the pieces together.

I had the same problem. Download and install the Windows Update Reset Tool (Google it). Run the tool and choose option 2. When the tool is finished, close it and then run the Windows Update Troubleshooter built into Windows 11. My updates worked normally after doing those two things.

stevegs , I have another way:"Just delete Windows.old folder in C: drive"
- luvsqlIron ContributorI've renamed the SoftwareDistribution folder but no matter how many services I stop I cannot rename the catroot2. I've rebooted. I check for Windows updates again and it's listing Windows 10 drivers and updates with failures (obviously they can't be installed) and Retry. I can't even get it to check the right updates.
