Windows 11 sometimes report that the charger is connected but provide no charging?

Windows 11 intermittently shows the charger as connected, yet the battery status indicates it is not charging, leaving the power level stagnant or dropping. This occurs unpredictably with the original charger, and I have already tried different outlets and checked for driver updates without success.

  • The icon detecting the charger while the percentage falls means Windows sees external power, but the system may not receive enough power to charge under the current load. Even with original charger and different outlets, cable, connector, adapter, firmware, battery health, or a charge limit can cause this. First, note the battery message and test while laptop is asleep or shut down; disconnect USB accessories and docks. Inspect the charging port and cable for heat, looseness, or damage, and check the manufacturer battery utility for a charge threshold or smart-charging mode. Install BIOS, chipset, and power-management updates from the laptop manufacturer, then restart. If it persists, run the manufacturer battery and AC-adapter diagnostics, not only Windows driver checks. A failed test, intermittent connector, or continuing discharge with the correct rated adapter points to hardware service. Do not compare with an underpowered USB-C charger unless its voltage and wattage meet laptop requirements.
