Update on File History Bug (KB5124010) - Windows Latest written Reached out to Media & Engineers

Hi everyone,

I am sharing a quick update regarding the persistent File History issue following recent Windows updates (KB5124010 / KB5120249 to KB5127648 / KB5126657).

Summary of the Bug Encountered:

  • Last Copied Date Unchanged: Clicking Run now in Control Panel creates physical backups on the target drive (D:), but the Last copied on date/timestamp fails to update to the latest time.
  • Previous Versions Missing: File Properties > Previous Versions shows There are no previous versions available for newly created or updated files (e.g., Word documents).
  • Cleanup Failure: Running fhmanagew.exe -cleanup or clearing older versions results in an Element not found (0x80070490) error.
  • Catalog & Folder Index Mismatch: Folder views retain previous timestamps instead of showing updated versions, even though physical backup data exists on the target drive.

I have raised this issue with the Feedback Center and Microsoft Community Hub. A few users have reported that the last backup time was not updated after the KB5124010/KB5120249 update. Japanese media and computer repair businesses have also mentioned similar situations.

Progress & Community Inquiry:

  • Recently, I provided detailed technical logs and steps to Abhijith M B (Contributing Editor at Windows Latest). He acknowledged that this issue is critical and confirmed via email (Yeah got it) that he is reaching out to Microsoft engineers and contacts within the development team to investigate this regression further.
  • While we await official feedback from Microsoft engineering and media followup:
  • Has anyone encountered a similar situation on Windows 11 (25H2/Build 26300) or Windows 10 (22H2) File History after the recent service stack/cumulative update?

  • For those who submitted Feedback Hub reports or escalated via Microsoft Support: Have you received any confirmation on pending fixes or service patches regarding File History catalog synchronization?

This is my feedback hub report:

Please click to view, second, and provide feedback. You can also view the file history. After updating from Windows 11 KB5124010/Windows 10 KB5120249 to Windows 11 KB5127648/Windows 10 KB5126657, the backup drive can be found and executed in "File History," but the last backup date of the files has not changed. If you encounter the same problem as me, you can submit feedback here. You can ask others if they have the same problem and ask them to second and add feedback to my feedback hub.

Any insights or similar logs from affected users would be greatly appreciated so we can aggregate the data for the engineering teams!

Thanks!
