How can I edit or change text in image while keeping the same font

Hi,

I have an image that contains some text, and I would like to edit or replace the text inside the image. The problem is that I want the new text to look exactly the same as the original one, including the same font, size, color, and style. I tried adding a text box over the image, but it doesn't match perfectly and looks a bit different.

I'm not sure what the best way is to edit or change text in an image. Should I use Photoshop or some AI image editor to detect the font automatically? Or is there a tool that can identify the font used in the image so I can replace the text more accurately?

If anyone knows a simple workflow or software that can edit or change text in an image while keeping the same font and formatting?

MyPaint is a free and drawing software for Windows, macOS, and Linux. While MyPaint is primarily designed for digital painting and drawing, it does have some text editing capabilities.

If you need to change text in image and want to use MyPaint, you can try the following:

    1. Open your image in MyPaint.

    2. Use the "Text" tool (T) to add text to your image.

    3. To edit the existing text with the same font, you can try the following:

Select the text layer by clicking on it in the layer list.

Go to the "Layers" menu and select "Layer Options".

Click on the "Text" tab and select the font, size, and other text properties.

Click "OK" to apply the changes.

    4. If you want to change text in image without affecting the rest of the image, you can create a new text layer by going to "Layers" > "New Layer" > "Text Layer".

However, keep in mind that MyPaint's text editing capabilities are limited compared to other graphics editors. If you need to perform complex text editing tasks, such as editing text with a custom font or adding effects, you may need to use a more advanced graphics editor.

  • One effective way to edit or change text in an image is to first identify the original font used in the picture. If you can find the exact or a very similar font, it becomes much easier to recreate the text so it matches the style of the image.

You can use online font detection tools such as WhatTheFont, WhatFontIs, or FontSquirrel Matcherator. Simply upload the image containing the text, and the tool will analyze the characters and suggest fonts that closely match the one used in the image.

Once you identify the correct font, open the image in an editor like Photoshop, or Figma. Remove the old text using a clone or healing tool, then add the new text using the same font, size, and color to make it blend naturally with the image.

This method works best to change text in image when the text in the image is clear and the font is common. In many cases, using the correct font allows you to recreate the text almost perfectly, making the edited image look natural and professional.

If you want to edit text with the same font on your PC, you can use Krita, a free and open-source image editing software.

Here's how to edit text with the same font:

    1. Open Krita: Start by opening Krita on your PC. You can download it from the official website if you haven't already.

    2. Import the image: Open the image that contains the text you want to edit by going to File > Open and selecting the image file.

    3. Duplicate the text layer: Duplicate the text layer by going to Layer > Duplicate Layer. This will create a copy of the original text layer.

    4. Select the text tool: Go to the Toolbox and select the Text tool. You can also use the shortcut T to select it.

    5. Edit the text: Click on the text layer you duplicated in step 3, and then use the Text tool to edit the text. You can type in the new text, and Krita will automatically adjust the font, size, and style to match the original text.

    6. Match the font: If you want to make sure the font matches the original text exactly, you can use the Font dropdown menu in the Text tool to select the correct font. You can also use the Font size and Font style controls to fine-tune the font settings.

    7. Save the changes: Once you're happy with the edited text, save the changes by going to File > Save.

By following these steps, you should be able to edit text with the same font using Krita and keep the same font, size, and style as the original text.

If you're comfortable with the command line, Using GraphicsMagick is a great option to change text in image on PC. GraphicsMagick is a powerful command-line image processing tool that can edit text in images. You can use it to change text in image using a variety of commands.

To get started, you'll need to download and install GraphicsMagick on your PC. Once installed, you can use the following command to change text in image:

convert input_image.png -pointsize 24 -font Arial -fill white -draw "text 100,100 'New Text'" output_image.png

    In this command:

convert is the GraphicsMagick command to convert and edit images.

input_image.png is the input image file with the text you want to change.

-pointsize 24 sets the font size to 24 points.

-font Arial sets the font to Arial.

-fill white sets the text color to white.

-draw "text 100,100 'New Text'" draws the new text at coordinates (100,100) with the specified font and color.

You can customize the command to suit your needs, changing the font, size, color, and position of the new text.

    Tips and Variations:

    • Use the -gravity option to position the text with respect to the image's center, top, bottom, left, or right.
    • Use the -background option to set the background color of the text.
    • Use the -colorspace option to change the color space of the image before editing the text.
    • Use the -append option to append the new text to the existing text in the image.

Keep in mind that GraphicsMagick is a command-line tool, so you'll need to use a terminal or command prompt to run the commands.

  • Photoshop is a nice option if you are familiar with. Adobe Photoshop is one of the most powerful and widely used image editing tools for editing text in an image with the same font. If the text in the image is part of the background (rasterized), Photoshop allows you to remove it using tools such as Content-Aware Fill, Clone Stamp, Healing Brush, or Patch Tool. These tools help reconstruct the background so the original text disappears naturally without leaving visible marks.

After changing text in the image, you can add new text using the Type Tool. Photoshop also includes a Match Font feature that can analyze the text in an image and suggest the closest matching fonts. With precise controls for font size, kerning, color, shadows, and blending, Photoshop makes it much easier to recreate text that looks almost identical to the original.

    Pros

    • Very powerful and professional editing features
    • Built-in Match Font tool helps identify fonts
    • Precise control over typography, spacing, and effects
    • Advanced tools like Content-Aware Fill for removing text cleanly
    • Supports high-resolution and complex images

    Cons

    • Requires a paid subscription
    • Learning curve for beginners
    • Can be overkill for simple text edits
    • Installation size is large compared to lightweight editors
