Azure Landing Zone Q&A
When organisations are embarking on their Cloud Adoption Journey one of the things that they need to establish is a landing zone, or environment where their servers, workloads, resources can live when hosted within Azure. It's almost the equivalent to building out a new physical datacentre, you need things like network subnets, security roles, storage, etc Over the last few months myself and Thomas Maurer have been working on a series of blog posts that explain more about Azure Landing Zones and how you can start to think about them from your companies perspective when embarking on your cloud journey. Azure VMware Solution The Azure VMware Solution (AVS) is now generally available allowing customers the change to move the VMware based workloads into the Azure and take advantage of Azure's scale. For more information check out the announcement for more information. Azure Arc Azure Arc helps you to manage your multi cloud environments using Azure! The Azure Arc for Servers capability went generally available at Microsoft Ignite. For more information check out the announcement for more information. Azure Backup Centre The new Azure Backup Centre allows you to manage, monitor and govern your backups within one place. For more information check out the announcement for more information. Security Centre Multi Cloud You can now bring your AWS and GCP alerts into Azure Security Centre to monitor your multi cloud environment from one place. Azure Hybrid Benefit Linux Customers now have the ability to take their licenses from on prem licenses for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) and use them in Azure. For more information check out the announcement for more information. Cross Region load balancing The Azure Load Balancer now has the capability to distribute your traffic cross-region. Windows Admin Centre The familiar interface we are all used to now is now built into the Azure portal, allows you to manage your Azure IaaS virtual machines seemlessly. M365 Lighthouse Managing multiple M365 environments can often be time consuming, however with the new lighthouse service you can manage everything from one place. Microsoft Teams Microsoft Teams has become a large part of our everyday lives, especially in 2020, and the product team announced a whole host of new features coming to the product soon. Windows Terminal A new preview version of Windows Terminal was released during Ignite which now allows you to actually click on hyperlinks generated within the terminal! Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) 2 Also announced at Ignite was that WSL 2 is now compatible within some older versions of Windows 10, version 1903 and 1909. Thank you for tuning into the "Reinventing the electricity grid" interview at Microsoft Ignite 2020 with Brian Janous. I wanted to share some more information about some of the things we talked about. Project Natick was an under water datacenter that was submerged in Scotland for 2 years, it's been a great research programme that's taught the team a lot of about running datacenters under water. 😉 Azure's new West US 3 region is making great strives to be sustainable with solar energy and water positive projects being incorporated into the building of the datacenters.
