How to Remove Username Using Regedit Effectively
I recently configured my PC for personal use by linking it to my Microsoft account. To reverse this, I performed a reset, preserving my files and folders, and set it up as a local account for school or business purposes without internet access and no login password. While I encountered some challenges along the way, I ultimately managed to rename the computer 'Rhapsody' and establish the user folder as 'Blue' in the C:\Users directory. Despite changing the account name to 'Gershwin' in the Settings to replace my default name, I noticed that my original name continued to appear on the startup screen. Upon researching a tutorial on how to modify the owner of a file, folder, drive, or registry key, I learned that Microsoft derives the account name from the first five letters of the associated email address. To address this, I explored altering or removing my email address from various links and profiles linked to my account. However, I am uncertain if simply leaving it blank would suffice or necessitate replacing it with another name. If I had understood how to configure the initial setup to solely display the computer name and user folder name as 'Rhapsody' and 'Blue', I wonder what name Microsoft would have designated as the user or owner in the File Properties/Details section. I have identified registry entries containing my email address and the default user name assigned by Microsoft. If necessary, I can provide more detailed information or screenshots of these entries. Additionally, certain CredManLog entries state 'IsMissingCred', indicating a credential issue.116Views0likes0CommentsNPC Resumes Random Restarts Without Warning
Greetings, my name is Dave and I'm here to assist you. Firstly, let's investigate if your computer generates any minidump files, which could offer clues regarding the root of the system crashes. To start, launch Windows File Explorer. Proceed to locate the following path: C:\Windows\Minidump Move any minidump files to your Desktop, and compress them into a zip file. Next, upload the zip file to a cloud storage service like OneDrive or Dropbox. Share the file and obtain a shareable link. Share the link to the zip file in this space so that we can review it for you.101Views0likes0CommentsUnusual Behavior Observed on several PCs
Here are four devices I have with their respective specifications and operating systems: 1. Desktop PC with an Intel Core i9-9900k processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card, running Windows 11 Pro. 2. Multimedia PC with an Intel Core i7-4790K processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1030 graphics card, running Windows 10 Home. 3. Laptop with an Intel Core i3 processor, Intel HD Graphics 5500, running Windows 10 Home. 4. Desktop PC with an Intel Core i7-7800X3D processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card, running Windows 11 Pro. The only common factor among these devices is my Microsoft account. However, I face the following issues on all four PCs: Upon logging in, the language selector appears on the taskbar even though it is set to be hidden. I use English (US) as the operating system language and another language for my keyboard. When I log out and back in, the circle loading icon and cursor stutter, but eventually, I reach the desktop and the language selector disappears. The second issue is random stutters, which occur sporadically on all four PCs. Additionally, the sign-in background is always black, even on the newest PC. Account sync is disabled, and these problems started about two years ago on my first PC (PC1) before spreading to the others. While I had resigned myself to these issues, the recurrence of the problem on my latest PC (PC4) has become overwhelming. I am hopeful that someone might have a solution to address these issues.130Views0likes0Comments"Is it safe to deactivate processor performance boost mode?"
After noticing that my laptop was running at dangerously high temperatures, I took steps to address the issue by undervolting my CPU by about 60. In my search for additional solutions, I came across a helpful video that provided some effective strategies. However, I am now concerned about the safety of disabling certain features, particularly regarding performance trade-offs. I am prepared to experiment with settings, but I want to ensure that I am not risking any significant damage. One specific concern I have is whether disabling the overclock protection in my BIOS will have any negative repercussions on the changes I have made. Any insights or advice on these matters would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help. ❤️114Views0likes0CommentsUnable to get rid of the bothersome blue prompt
How can I eliminate the annoying blue pop-up that keeps appearing on Windows 11? This prompt disrupts my tasks by randomly notifying me that Windows will shut down in a few minutes, and I'll be signed out. Despite my efforts to disable all notifications, the issue persists.115Views0likes0CommentsError in nCache Hierarchy Structure
Recently, I assembled a new PC approximately two weeks ago, which has been running smoothly until today. The problem arose when I attempted to play BeamNG for the first time on this PC. Every time I play, it crashes and causes a reboot after about 5 minutes of gameplay, accompanied by the following error message in the event viewer: A fatal hardware error has occurred. Reported by component: Processor Core Error Source: Machine Check Exception Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error Processor APIC ID: 0 Despite my attempts to troubleshoot the issue by disabling Core Performance Boost and Global C State Control in the BIOS, performing a clean uninstall of GPU drivers and AMD Chipset drivers using DDU, and updating the BIOS on my motherboard, the problem persists. Even though my CPU temperature remains below 55 degrees Celsius, ruling out any overheating concerns according to data from MSI Afterburner overlay. This issue seems isolated to BeamNG as other games run without any problems. Notably, the APIC ID changes in other games. My PC specifications are as follows: Windows 11 23H2, Ryzen 5 5600 processor, 32GB (2x16) DDR4 3200 RAM, AsRock b450m AC R2.0 motherboard, RX 6700 XT graphics card, and MSI Mag A650BN power supply unit. I'm wondering if there are any software solutions to this issue, or if I should consider contacting support for a potential CPU replacement. Could this possibly be a power supply problem? Any guidance on resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.162Views0likes0CommentsFrustration with Widgets
I have two frustrations with the Widgets on the Start Menu. One of them I believe can be resolved using either a RegEdit or CMD command, but the other seems impossible to fix due to Microsoft's approach in deciding what users want, even when it goes against our preferences. I must say that I have grown fond of this section and find myself browsing the news in there several times a day when I have some downtime. However, at some point recently (I can't recall exactly when), they introduced a "Coupon" panel to the news feed (refer to the screenshot). Despite clicking the X in the top right corner of that card and selecting "Hide savings card," it merely refreshes the screen, leaving the annoying "Savings card" still visible. I really want to get rid of that. The second annoyance has two aspects that I believe I have to live with. Firstly, I detest sports and would love to disable that feature, but it seems impossible. Although I made sure that Sports is not selected in the Interests, I have found myself blocking around 30 or 40 'news sites' that all include FanNation in their name somewhere. This results in spending more time blocking unwanted content than actually reading something I find interesting. Ideally, I wish there was a way to search for FanNation, for instance, and block all related content at once. Secondly, is there a way to disable the finance-related updates above those panels that feature breaking news and severe weather alerts? To me, these updates do not qualify as breaking news, and I have no interest in knowing how the currency values fluctuate or if the DOW goes up or down. To sum up, most of this post serves as a complaint about Microsoft's assumptions regarding what users want, even when it contradicts our preferences. However, I would greatly appreciate assistance in removing the bothersome Coupon/Savings card, and you can disregard the rest of my grievances.104Views0likes0CommentsIs it normal for automatic maintenance to run when my computer is idle every day?
Hello, I have observed that my Windows 11 computer initiates Automatic Maintenance multiple times throughout the day. This typically occurs when my computer has been idle for approximately 10 minutes and ceases as soon as I resume my work. Upon returning to work, I promptly check the Security and Maintenance Center, which confirms that the maintenance process was executed mere minutes before. It appears that the system initiates maintenance during idle periods and halts once I am actively using the computer. Is this behavior to be expected? However, there are instances when the Automatic Maintenance does not cease, and it seems to continue running even after I have resumed work from an idle state. Shouldn't it stop immediately when I am active again? At times, the maintenance process persists until I either shut down my computer or manually intervene to end it. Is this normal? Has anyone encountered this issue before? Should I simply wait for it to stop on its own? Furthermore, I believe that the Automatic Maintenance is functioning properly since I have noted information pertaining to defragmentation and ESENT, with no reported errors. These recent observations have raised concerns for me as I lack a comprehensive understanding of how this process operates. Could someone kindly provide insight into these queries? Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.99Views0likes0CommentsCertain fonts are not rendering properly on my Windows 11 desktop
I am currently using the 22H2 Build 22621.1992 operating system with 16GB of RAM and an i5 processor running at 2.92 GHz on a Gigabyte motherboard. I recently removed a number of unnecessary-looking fonts from my operating system. As a result, certain characters, specifically some bullet characters, do not display correctly in my MS Word; instead, small rectangular boxes are shown. Previously, the close buttons on the explorer tabs also exhibited a similar issue, but after I identified a list of default Windows fonts, they were restored. However, the bullet characters in MS Word continue to be problematic. There are approximately 600 fonts installed on my Windows system. I have meticulously reviewed the list of default Windows fonts and reinstalled them all using Font Navigator and High Logic Main Type font managers. I have reset the default font settings from Control Panel > Fonts > Font Settings. Furthermore, I have successfully executed the following commands in the Admin Command Prompt without encountering any errors:151Views1like0Comments
