Re: Page numbers starting from page 7
Thanks for all your help. I have got it fixed. Unfortunately I couldn't access the Suzanne Barnhill post. For some reason it was blocked by my work firewall. Using your exposition page I did end up working it out. I added a section break in the page where I wanted to start the numbers, and it seems to have started them there.800Views0likes1CommentPage numbers starting from page 7
I have a document that has an extensive index (which goes for six pages). I want to start page 1 on what Word considers page 7. I can see how I can start page 2 as page 1, but nowhere can I find out how to make page 7 start as page 1. Can anyone help?Solved965Views0likes3CommentsWords centred after Find and Replace
I have been using Word and at one stage put in a Centred format for a particular word I was trying to change the formatting of. Now though, even though I have removed the Centred option in the Find and Replace, it is still coming up centred. A picture tells a thousand words, so probably it's easier to look at the images rather than me try and describe it further. One shows the Find and Replace with the part of the text that became centred, and the other shows the same thing, but inside the Format options in the Find and Replace.424Views0likes1CommentChanged format to Webpage, how to change it back?
I am working on a very large document (a court transcript) which I hope to post online. It has been in a Word Document, but as it was scanned in there were numerous changes I had to make to clean up the OCR. I have done that and saved it, then because I wanted to see what it would look like as a Word-created webpage, I saved it (under a different filename) to a different folder. It looked pretty crappy as all the bolds, page breaks, and other formatting seems to have been stripped out of it. I figured this was no big deal, because I could open up the previous saved version, before I saved it as HTML, and just try a different way. But when I open up the other versions, even in RTF mode, they still look like the webpage version, which is really frustrating. Does anyone have any ideas to fix this?923Views0likes2CommentsHelp! Every second page in my Word Doc is blank
I have been working on a very large Word Document (more than 9,000 pages). To make things easier on myself I tried to make it so that every time the text reads "/87" that it changes it to /87 with a page break. I thought this had worked well, but partway through the document I noticed that every time I get to a /87 it adds a completely blank page, before resuming the document as per normal. Is there some way to kill off these errant blank pages. I've attached what it looks like ahead of where the page break is supposed to be.800Views0likes1CommentRe: Trying to get remove table formatting
Thanks again. Your replies are really encouraging. I have very little idea what I am doing with macros. I try to create and run the one using the text you include, but when I try to run it, it says "Compile error: Invalid outside procedure". I'm sure your advice will work perfectly. I am going to have to research a bit more about how to create and run macros.90KViews0likes2CommentsHow to remove all images from a .rtf Word document
I have a very long (9000 page) .rtf Word document. It was created via OCR from 9000 pages of hardcopy. Occasionally the text includes images (as per the attached image). I realise there is the option of replacing all graphics with nothing, and that should delete all the images. (As in find ^g replace [leave blank]). Nonetheless when I do this it says there were zero replacements made. This is driving me crazy, as clearly there are graphics inside the document. Could the images I see be something other than graphics? How can I delete them all?969Views0likes1CommentRe: How to remove capital C when followed by a space then return
Thanks so much. That worked perfectly. Given you seem to be the bulk-replace guru, here is a tougher one. I want to add in a Next Page Section Break everytime in the document it has "/86" without the quotes. This is because the final part of each page is a day in 1986 (written in the text as "xx/xx/86", and I want a next page section break added in there. Word doesn't seem to allow me to do this using special characters. Can it be done?426Views0likes0CommentsHow to remove capital C when followed by a space then return
In a document I am working on, it was OCR'd from a very large document (9,000 pages) that was previously in files with holes punched into each page. Often during the OCR the holes were coming up as a Capital letter C followed by a return (as per the below). If I just delete capital C's from the entire document I screw up many words. Is there a way I can only delete a capital C when it is immediately followed by a space, then a return? I'm also hoping to remove situations where I have a return at the end of a line, followed by another return on the next line in the below image I just want the document to have one return as per the first paragraph) rather than a return then another return as per the proceeding three lines. Any help with this one too would be awesome. Thanks in advance to all.485Views0likes2CommentsTrying to get remove table formatting
I have a large document (9000 pages) I am working on. It has been OCR'd from original files. Sometimes there are errant tables included. I've tried to find a way to remove the tables without affecting the words inside. I haven't found a way yet. I've tried a replace all, but there doesn't seem to be a special character that matches that circle thingy in the below image. Any help gratefully received.Solved96KViews0likes9CommentsRe: Columns appearing from nowhere, formatting going weird
Thanks Stefan_Blom. You may be right about the section breaks. It is weird that it would start happening on every page, when I have gone 4,500 pages without this happening at all. How can it be fixed? Sometimes though it seems to add columns, as per the below. Then if I try to delete the section break, I end up with this:622Views0likes1CommentColumns appearing from nowhere, formatting going weird
I have a 9,000 page Word document I have created by scanning PDFs using OCR and for the most part I have been content to clean it up a bit by hand. The OCR didn't do a great job, but it was OK. About 4,000 words in though and the and suddenly the text seems to be divided into columns. I can't see that there is any table screwing with the formatting (although occasionally throughout the document unnecessary tables have been created). I have highlighted some of the text (below). Is there any easy fix for this? I can't cut and paste text without it getting worse, and even if I try to Paste it into the document without formatting it still seems to end up in columns.941Views0likes3Comments
