Skype Room Systems v2 (SRS v2) devices based on Surface Pro 4 (SP4) may observe issues after being upgraded to Windows 10 Creators Update (Version 1703).  For example, the notification "skype-mrx:// Invalid value for registry" may display when the SRS v2 application attempts to launch or the on-screen soft keyboard may act unpredictably.  SRS v2 devices based on SP4 can be recovered from these types of issues by following the instructions below.

NOTE 1: Unlike SP4, SRS v2 devices using the new Surface Pro based systems come loaded with Window 10 Creators Update pre-installed so no action is required.

NOTE 2: See March 30th, 2018 blog article to address issues when devices upgraded to Windows 10 Version 1709.

Use the reset script to recover SRS v2

A reset script is being made available to recover SRS v2 devices without the need to re-image.  The script requires a Windows reset to be performed after configuration. Running the script ensures that the Reset Partition has that AutoUnattend and Windows Features are configured correctly, and that the application installed after a reset is complete. User settings will need to be entered after this reset.

The steps to perform a reset:

  1. If not already upgraded to Windows 10 Creators Update (Version 1703), upgrade your system to Windows 10 Creators Update and then follow the steps below.
  • Log into Admin mode, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and then Check for Updates. Follow the upgrade instructions.
  • Note: Windows Version can be checked by running the command winver.exe.  The script will not run on builds earlier than Version 1703.
  1. Log in as admin.  Download the SRS v2 Build 3.0.15.0 installation package -- here
  2. Unpack contents of the installation package and copy to Skype Room System v2 device.
  3. Launch powershell as admin
  4. Change to the directory that contains the ResetTool script.
  5. Run the following command in PowerShell: "powershell.exe -executionpolicy unrestricted .\ResetTool.ps1" and follow the instructions in the cmd window to reset the device.
  • Note: This action will migrate SRS v2 device to the new provisioning and install SRS v2 application Build 3.0.15.0.

    7. The script will prompt you to run Windows Reset when complete. Run Windows Reset from the Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC.

Once the installation is complete, check to make sure SRS v2 is provisioned correctly.

  • Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SkypeRoomSystem\ProvisioningVersion should have the value "5".
