Skype Room Systems v2 (SRS v2) devices based on Surface Pro 4 (SP4) may observe issues after being upgraded to Windows 10 Creators Update (Version 1703).  For example, the notification "skype-mrx:// Invalid value for registry" may display when the SRS v2 application attempts to launch or the on-screen soft keyboard may act unpredictably.  SRS v2 devices based on SP4 can be recovered from these types of issues by following the instructions below.

NOTE 1: Unlike SP4, SRS v2 devices using the new Surface Pro based systems come loaded with Window 10 Creators Update pre-installed so no action is required.

NOTE 2: See March 30th, 2018 blog article to address issues when devices upgraded to Windows 10 Version 1709.

Use the reset script to recover SRS v2

A reset script is being made available to recover SRS v2 devices without the need to re-image.  The script requires a Windows reset to be performed after configuration. Running the script ensures that the Reset Partition has that AutoUnattend and Windows Features are configured correctly, and that the application installed after a reset is complete. User settings will need to be entered after this reset.

The steps to perform a reset:

  1. If not already upgraded to Windows 10 Creators Update (Version 1703), upgrade your system to Windows 10 Creators Update and then follow the steps below.
  • Log into Admin mode, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and then Check for Updates. Follow the upgrade instructions.
  • Note: Windows Version can be checked by running the command winver.exe.  The script will not run on builds earlier than Version 1703.
  1. Log in as admin.  Download the SRS v2 Build 3.0.15.0 installation package -- here
  2. Unpack contents of the installation package and copy to Skype Room System v2 device.
  3. Launch powershell as admin
  4. Change to the directory that contains the ResetTool script.
  5. Run the following command in PowerShell: "powershell.exe -executionpolicy unrestricted .\ResetTool.ps1" and follow the instructions in the cmd window to reset the device.
  • Note: This action will migrate SRS v2 device to the new provisioning and install SRS v2 application Build 3.0.15.0.

    7. The script will prompt you to run Windows Reset when complete. Run Windows Reset from the Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC.

Once the installation is complete, check to make sure SRS v2 is provisioned correctly.

  • Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SkypeRoomSystem\ProvisioningVersion should have the value "5".

  • Ella Wright 3.0.16.0 is a valid version.  It came available as an update recently to fix an issue with the "Give Feedback" feature on SRS v2.

We have just received new SRSv2 Room Systems and out of the box they have version 3.0.16.0 installed.  It is getting the error "We can't sign you in because the server couldn't be contacted or the version is incompatible for the device".  The user account is homed in Office 365 and sign in from the desktop version of Skype for Business works perfectly.  From the Room system Desktop we can sign into the portal just fine.

Reverting back to 3.0.12.0 seems to fix this.   Is 3.0.16.0 not a valid version?

Thought I would update everyone -

I fixed it by literally redploying the Skype Rooms V2 image onto the Surface Pro 4's and just setting them up again with the skype account. All worked and all 5 meeting rooms now working perfectly again, I wasted a lot of time messing around with bits and pieces but this quick solution worked perfectly.

    Thanks

  • checking on proper syntax, if you used the set command it would then run the script:

    Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted then run .\ResetTool.ps1

However, this doesn't actually run the reset but seems to prep for the AutoUnattend.   It would seem that this wasn't actually tested prior to posting.  Manually running the app to install 3.0.15.0 from store or download then the app wouldn't run at all.  Reverted to 3.0.12.0 for now.

  • Cannot get script to run.  Ran installer from unit, ran powershell as administrator.  Ran command from root, no good.  navigated to file location, ran there, no good.  Screen shots shown.

  • John Caldarelli I shared the following with Steven in the event that the blog post guidance above has already been tried.

It might be worth checking whether this article on SHA-1 certificates applies in the case of your customer.

If all avenues of troubleshooting have been exhausted, including the reset script detailed above, please login as admin and retrieve logs using the instructions provided on TechNet here.  The customer can then open a Microsoft Premier Support ticket along with the logs for further investigation.

  • Hello David Groom,

It is so very difficult to find infomation on errors when it comes to Skype Rooms V2. On Thursday 19th October 2017 all 5 Surface Pro 4's went offline with skype rooms, the error being -

"Sign In failed - We couldn't sign you in. There might be a problem with your credentials. Please contact your support team"

I am the on site "IT Guy" here and have only recently taken over so have never actually come across the Skype rooms software. So far I have -

Changed the password on the Skype account

restarted the surface pro more times than I can count

checked for updates that might have effected the profile

logged out of the profile and logged back into another one (this worked but when logging back into the original profile it did not)

Logged in as admin on the Surface Pro and then logged into the skype profile (this worked)

Checked if there was an update for the skype for bussiness app (there was not)

So, with all that being said.. the only thing I can see that may have changed this is the fact there was an update released and all tablets would not sign in at the same time (if it was just the one tablet then I would be looking into local issues but with it being all 5, that points more in the way of updates/Microsoft).

    Windows 10 version - 1703

    Skype Rooms version - 3.0.15.0

All tablets are fully up to date and have no other issues. Are you able to offer any assistance with the issues I have?? I am stuck with this one so it would be most helpful.

    Thank you
