Sharepoint Framework Backward Compatible

I am preparing SPFx training tutorials in spanish in my region, and one one of the videos and slides on the training material has this: (Backward compatible)
How would you explain that SPFx is backwards compatible?

- I think it's related to the fact you can use SPFx WebParts on classic SharePoint pages too
