Requesting Access issue

Hi

This is a really strange one. I have a user who is the site owner for their site. They have set themseleves to receive requests for access to the site in Site Permissions, Access Request Settings (and I have double checked they have done this correctly). But when you try and access the site without permissions you don't get the option of sending a request, just told you don't have permissions (see attached). Is there any other setting which would mean users could not request access to a site?

Thanks, Laurie

  • I have a similar issue with a few SharePoint 2013 on prem site onwers not being able to access the pending requets, so this might be similar. Check out this article I wrote on how to check if they have access to the page itself.

That is good article. FYI, this problem can also occur when sites are migrated to SPOnline.

go to the site/_layouts/permsetup.aspx page and confirm that you have a default members group. If this is not set, you can have strange problems like this.
