News item template shows THIS PAGE IS SAMPLE CONTENT in header after publication

There doesn't seem to be a way of removing all the placeholder content on the news templates. I have THIS PAGE IS SAMPLE CONTENT appearing above the title of one news item - does anyone know how to remove it?

It's a template that is added as a custom template when you add the progress tracker app to your site (it comes included on the MS Project Management site template). I have deleted the template now as there is no way to edit it. This is a bug that MS need to fix.

babahulley Click the little pen icon (edit webpart) on the banner, then on the right in the "Title area", scroll down to "Show text block above title" and toggle it to "No" or update the text from "THIS PAGE IS SAMPLE CONTENT" to whatever you want 🙂

  • babahulley Did you create a site page template and using it while creating a new news item?

If yes, you have to make changes to page template (remove placeholder), save page template and then use new page template to create news pages.

Also, is this placeholder added using any out of the box web part or using custom solution like SPFx?

I used one of the included MS news templates called "status report template." The 'visual' and 'basic text' templates don't carry this text.

babahulley I don't see this news template in our SharePoint site. Are you sure this is a SharePoint out of the box news template and not the template created by someone in your organization?

Can you go to the "Site Pages" library and check if there are any custom page templates available?
