How to disconnect MS-Teams team from their respective SharePoint site

jenniferWoo , I think it should work. Though https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/restore-deleted-site-collection, so the trick is having the global SharePoint Admin restore the site before it is hard deleted.
This could potentially work for the other associated parts of Teams (eg. restore the mailbox or the M365 group without restoring the entire Team).
I am curious, though; when you said:

Did you mean you created Teams channels tied to pre-existing SharePoint sites (which I wouldn't expect to be affected by the Teams deletion), or just that you created channels within the Team, thereby automatically creating locations in SharePoint (library subfolders for Standard Channels, separate sites for Shared or Private Channels)?
- when you create a Teams channel you have the option to create a new one or from an existing group. I tested this yesterday: I created from a 365 group (which was automatically created when the SharePoint site was created), then I deleted the Teams channel. The 365 group and the SharePoint site were deleted as well.
- I am curious if Microsoft is aware that deleting a Teams channel deletes the pre-existing Microsoft 365 group and the related pre-existing SharePoint Site. I can't imagine that this would be by design.

Basically, my presumption was that if you created a Team from a classic SharePoint-only site (aka, one not already associated with any Team)......and then created a Team that you attached to it, deleting the Team shouldn't affect that pre-existing site. I will test to confirm that, though.
