Filter a (modern) Document Library

It's great that Modern DocLib allows users to store a URL link in one place.

I'd like to create a filtered view on the list of links stored in the library.

The challenge is in the (admin) user interface for the filter within the DocLib Settings:

Minimal DisplayFilter criteriait's a globe-shaped icon

I have created a minimal, effective display for the custom view.

I try to express my selection criterion, which on the library display is an icon - and yet i'm being prompted for text.

Please help. Because it has to do with language, structuring a search query is tricky - and thus I turn specifically to you with similar, greater experience.  Thank you in advance.

  • It would be nice to provide an option for using a tree interface to filter document libraries, in either the left hand nav or in the new right hand SmartFilters. People are asking Microsoft to do this here:

If you look at the third image, you will see that links have a globe icon next to them.\

in the second image, you can't insert a globe icon - so would value would you insert into the text box asking for type is equal to [textbox]

(i have since developed a workaround, which is to sear on ".url" in the name) but I still would like to know what string i am supposed to insert for a link, or, for that matter and of the other standard MS Office file types.
