Project for web - task cost

Copper Contributor

Hi,

Is there any indication that the ability to set & report individual task costs is coming to project for the web?

I know this is available in Dynamics - Project operations, but we would not invest in this just for that functionality.

This is a huge roadblock to adoption for me.

Thanks,

Jason.

In the current version of Project for the Web (aka Planner Premium), there is no feature that calculates the cost of tasks and the entire project. This feature IS available in the Microsoft Project desktop applictation. If this is a feature you really need, you might want to migrate to the Microsoft Project desktop application instead. Just a thought. Hope this helps.
As Dale mentioned the feature is not there, and it's not on the current Microsoft roadmap for project and planner! you have one of the following options
1- you can extend Project for the web using PowerApps, you can set costs using custom columns, but they will not show in the MS UI and you have to use a PowerApps grid (its not very user friendly)

2-Use an alternative partner product that can offer the features you are looking for they won't be as expensive or demanding as project operations, and you are still within the Microsoft platform

@Jason_Reece As previously mentioned there is no way to calculate and view costs in Project for the Web.  Another option would be to calculate these costs using Power BI.  We actually do this with Project Online data as you can't rely on the cost calculations coming out of MSP Online and we have additional cost calculations that MSP Online can't provide.

  1. Create an AssignmentCost table with timephased assignment data
  2. Create a Resource Rate table with effective dates and rates
  3. Do a conditional merge, merging item 2 with item 1 then calculate costs (hours * rate)
Thank you.

I have a small project that I can try this on, so I will give it a go.
