Effort and Workload on Joint Tasks
Please can someone help us with the following scenario? 😊
Task A is scheduled next week, 8th to 12th May 2024, and has two resources assigned to it (Resource 1 & Resource 2) and the effort to complete the task is 4 hours. On Monday, in Project Pro Plan the PM updates the task to say 1 hour has been completed. Remaining work and % Work complete updates accordingly to show that there are 3 hours remaining until the 12th May. This three hours remaining is equally divided between Resource 1 & Resource 2 until 12th May.
In fact, Resource 1 completed the 1 hour of effort. Therefore, in reality, the split should be:
- Remaining hours – 3 hours
- Remaining hours for Resource 1 – 1 hour
- Remaining hours for Resource 2 – 2 hours
How can the PM make sure this happens so Resource 1 & Resource 2 have the accurate workload showing on their timesheet/task list for the remainder of the week?
Thank you in advance for your support 😊

The PM needed to enter the Actual Work for the resource assignment and not for the task. To do this, he/she should have applied the Task Usage view and then applied the Work table. In the Work table, he/she would be able to enter 1h in the Actual Work field for Resource 1. Hope this helps.

Dale_HowardMVP We have tried that. Inserting 1.05 hours as shown below. However, when we save and change the view to a Gannt it has not picked up upon the 1.05 hours. Any ideas please? Thank you.

Did you change the Actual Work to 0h on the task in the Gantt Chart view before you entered the 1h for the resource assignment in the Task Usage view? I should have mentioned that would be the preliminary step before entering the Actual Work in the Task Usage view
