OneDrive is blocking syncing secondary sources

Copper Contributor

In short: I need to be able to sync multiple sources (separate domains, @location1.com and @location2.com) but am receiving an error when doing so from 1 of the 3 tenants only. This is a policy issue that is blocking it, but I do not know where this setting is.

Background: We have 3 companies that work closely together and we need to be able to use OneDrive to sync all locations. Company B and C are able to sync each other, but Company A is unable to sync either and receives the error below:

"Your IT department doesn't allow you to sync files from this location to your computer. (Error Code:0x8004deea)."

Company A:

Azure AD Premium P2

Company B:

Azure AD Free

Company C:

Azure AD Free

Nothing in SharePoint/One drive settings (admin.sharepoint.com) options for this. The checkbox for "allow syncing only on on computers joined to specific domains" is NOT checked.

Coniditional Access Policies: We have MFA required, We block most non US locations, block legacy authentication.

The error message you are receiving suggests that there is a policy in place that is preventing syncing from the specific source location to your computer. Since this is happening for one company only, it could be that there is a Conditional Access Policy (CAP) in place that is blocking the syncing.

You mentioned that you have MFA required and that you block most non-US locations and legacy authentication. These settings are all part of Conditional Access policies, and it is possible that one of these policies is blocking the syncing.

To troubleshoot this issue, you can try the following steps:

  1. Check your Conditional Access policies: Review your Conditional Access policies in the Azure portal to see if any of them are blocking syncing from the specific source location to your computer. Make sure that you are not blocking syncing for any locations that you want to sync.

  2. Check your OneDrive settings: Double-check your OneDrive settings to make sure that syncing is not being blocked for the specific source location. Check the "Sync" settings for each tenant and ensure that they are set up correctly.

  3. Contact Microsoft Support: If you are unable to resolve the issue, you can contact Microsoft Support for assistance. They can review your settings and help you troubleshoot the issue.

  4. Check with the IT department of Company A: It is possible that there is a local IT policy in place that is preventing syncing from the specific source location to your computer. Contact the IT department of Company A to see if they are aware of any policies that could be causing the issue.

I hope this helps you resolve the issue.
