Using Teams with a Mac for Online Lessons

Copper Contributor

I have hit a wall using Teams to deliver online lessons. i am a music teacher at a large music college. Most of the teachers and students use a Mac. Teams does not yet handle embedded audio in Powerpoint at all when sharing a screen. I have been trying to find a workaround. I have an iMac, (Focusrite Clarett Thunderbolt), and use an Office365 account supplied by the music school I teach at. Teams does not see the Clarett as a device, but Mic and Speaker selection does show the Focusrite Thunderbolt as an option. However when selected for Mic only input 1 of the Clarett gets through regardless of how the Focusrite software mixer is set. What I need is for Teams to see the entire interface. Is this related to the inability of this version of Teams to see embedded audio on a Mac? Is this new update that is out for Windows and supposedly coming for OSX going to fix these issues?

Thanks

Hi @GaryFredericks

Share system audio is currently only available on Windows devices

They are working on it for MAC per this uservoice

https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/32616083-share-video-and-audio...

So I would vote on the uservoice. This should fix the issue. The only way that you will get around this is to swap out to a windows device or, as you have been doing - running the audio through speakers which was done before the share system audio functionality was introduced. However, results may vary. In terms of timescale, there is no clear timescale. Voting for the uservoice will keep you updated but it is known that Microsoft are prioritising high demand features such as raise voice, seeing all users in a meeting and custom backgrounds currently. It may take some time to come in - so I would recommend trying to get your organisation to provide you with a windows device for this functionality now in order to support you with it

Hope that answers your question
