Teams SIP Gateway media paths

Copper Contributor

Hi,

We are deploying Teams phone system with a mix of Teams native phones (Poly CCX500) as well as Teams SIP gateway connected phones (Poly VVX450). We have direct routing PSTN access via Ribbon SBCs and Telstra Enterprise SIP services in Australia. We are planning to deploy Media Bypass with Local Media Optimization to keep the media streams on-net and avoid hair-pinning via the Internet and Microsoft Transport Relays where possible.

I'm wondering if Teams SIP Gateway allows direct media for calls between two SIP gateway connected phones that are on our internal network (on-net) or between a SIP gateway connected phone and a native Teams phone or client that are both on-net. Also does SIP Gateway allow media bypass with direct routing SBCs i.e. calling from an on-net SIP gateway connected phone to the PSTN via direct routing can the media flow direct from the phone to the direct routing SBC or does it have to hair-pin via a MS cloud transport relay - has anyone had any experience with this?

Hi,

Currently all the traffic for SIP gateway devices are Media Flow through. Media Bypass is still not supported with SIP Gateway.

Thanks Satish,
Hopefully it's on the Teams SIP Gateway roadmap
