Excel mis-behaving !

Brass Contributor

"All  of a sudden" - ain't that always the case ! - Excel is mis-behaving !

I'm a bit of a novice - I've only been using Excel since 1994 - and I have NEVER come across ANYTHING like this Challenge.

I have started one more / new WorkSheet - part of a MUCH bigger exercise, with 8 other (working) WorkSheets in the same file.

I had text in Cells B3, B4, B5, B6

Put cursor in Cell B3
Put cursor in Cell B4
Put cursor in Cell B3
Put cursor into Edit bar at the top
Add a few characters on the end of the text - they appear in the edit bar, and in Cell B3.
Press Enter; amended text appears in Cell B3;

   cursor goes to Cell B4;

   Cell B4 content appears in edit bar
Put cursor in Cell B3 - B THREE - whose text now appears in the Edit bar.

All as usual.

But now ! -

Put cursor into end of text in edit bar and . . .

. . . that part of the text in Cell B4 - B FOUR - that overflows into Cell C4 disappears.
Now add a few characters in the edit bar to the content of Cell B3
The characters appear there - AND inserted INTO the text in Cell B4 - B FOUR !
Press Enter, and the text in Cell B4 re-appears unchanged;

    the changes appear (as they should) at the end of Cell B3.

    Except that they now have the colour that they would have, were they in Cell B4 !

So there is a problem.

Apart from anything else, Excel ignores my

    Private Sub Worksheet_ChangeByVal Target As Range)

routine - I inserted a Stop command at the start of the routine.

So - I started by copying the Sheet to a new file;

then I tried to "Repair" Excel itself;

and then both the original Worksheet, and the new copy -

but to no avail.

And NOW - when I click on D> Compile, it reports re

Range("M2")  - Sub or Function not defined !

So I guess the next step is to re-install Excel (office ?) all over again.

And if so - I am warned that this would remove "all" my Settings - but what settings are these?

Is there a List ?

Can I "export" them to re-insert them later ?

And if so, how ?

OR - is there a simple "software" solution ?
