Deleting 1-1 chats in Teams
Hi all,
we have a requirement where an organization wishes to delete user's 1-1 chat in their Microsoft Teams environment with following requirements:
- All users should be able to delete their 1-1 chat history from Web, Desktop and Mobile clients.
There is a user voice for this topic. Delete Private Chat threads
Do we have workaround for deleting 1-1 chats? - IT Admin should be retrieve all the chats which are deleted.
Please advice.
1. Vote for the UV and get others to vote for it. Microsoft marked it as on the backlog so at least they are thinking about implementing this. I don't think there is any workaround, the closest is to hide a chat.
2. You can use retention policies to accomplish this.

- Techi_JackCopper ContributorThough you dont have any option for direct deleting the chat in teams for users and group but you can use microsoft purview to create a retention policy for the peroid you want to keep the chat.
Try to follow the article which helps in deleting chat within 24 hrs by retention policy.
