calling plan minutes shared across all users?

Copper Contributor

Good morning. We are working through migrating to the Microsoft Teams phone system and are struggling to make things work the way our 3ed party Microsoft sales rep told us.

We were told calling plan minutes can be shared across all users. So, we have a few calling plans assigned to random users, and we can have the bulk of our users on the Microsoft Teams Phone Standard license that does not include a calling plan. Still, this licensing can share the existing calling plan linked to our Teams Phone with Calling Plan (country zone 1 - US)‎ licensing.

Sharing the minutes across users might be possible, but we found out that with the Microsoft Teams Phone Standard license, we cannot assign a phone number to this user without adding an additional calling plan to the same user.

Was the salesperson wrong, or am I doing something wrong? Is there another action to turn on calling plan sharing?

Hi,

To be able to assign a number and for the user to be able to dial out or receive calls they need a Calling Plan license. The minutes that are included in Calling Plan licenses will be shared among the users with the same license in the same region. So you if you have 10 users in Germany with 120 minutes plans, they will have 1200 minutes to share, one of them can use all the 1200 minutes. If you have 5 users in Germany and 5 users in USA, all with 120 minutes plans, then the German users will have 600 minutes together and American users 600 minutes.

If you purchase a Calling Plan Pay-As-You-Go for all users, then you will be able to assign a number to a user and only pay for the minutes they use. You pay by purchasing Communication Credits first, or pay via NCE (New Commerce Experience) afterwards.

You could also use Shared Calling, with that you don't assign a phone number to users so they will only be able to dial outbound calls. This is also payed via Communication Credits per minute, or via NCE.
